hey yall, i just got a sick deal on some 2006 LX wheels for my 99 LX, and they tires are dressed in some defenders that have 2016 date codes and are dry rotting and a spare from 2006 that i am sure came from the factory. i was wondering what size defender i should get, whether it's 275/70r18 or 275/65r18, and i was aiming for the 275/70r18 for budget reasons (i'm a student), I was wondering if there would be any decrease in mpgs. i have a brush guard on the car already but one reason i want to get defenders is because they help improve gas mileage. what do you guys think?

I got stock size Michelin LTX M/S, I believe it's 275/65/18? and my gas mileage is still horrible.. But I love them! Quiet, smooth, great in the wet, wearing evenly. Got them at 34 psi. getting 12mpg steady as a rock normal city and some hwy.. on long trips I get 15mpg if I'm careful.

These tires replaced the Bridgeston that came with it, rock hard felt like driving a carriage.

yeah i figured the mpgs wouldn’t change, im aiming for 275/70 since i like the look of them, but michelins are top of the top, im just debating on whether or not i should take the grille guard off

When I looked for tires there was almost no price difference between the stock size and the 275/70, maybe a few bucks. But I got a super deal at a local Toyota dealer it was about $150 cheaper than any other, and then got a $70 CC from michelin.. And from other posts here I heard that dealers don't like installing non stock sizes. Didn't try so not sure.

When you say Grill Guard, do you mean these cheesy grills they used to install in the 90's attached to the bumper making them look like some protection but ended up being damage multipliers? Or you mean an ARB that I can buy from you for an attractive offer if you remove?

yeah it’s one of those waag grille guards pops installed on the truck when we bought it back in ‘04, and pops told me that i have to make sure the 18” wheels won’t cause any issues with the axles, even though they are stock wheels from a later mod LX
