The SOA on my 40 is now complete and it's time for some new shoes!

I am looking for some advice. I have the opportunity to get a great deal on some 35x14.5x16s but am curious about any issues that I might have.

My current setup is F motor, 4spd conversion, power steering, front discs, stock birfs, stock rear shafts, and stock 4.10 gears.

Other then the fact I will need new wheels, anyone see any major drawback to a tire of this size on my rig?

What power steering system do you have? 14.5" wide tires would do much better with a saginaw box.

Another issue to consider is backspacing on the wheels. I run 35x12.50s and the 3.75" factory backspacing results in plenty of rub so I just installed 1.25" spacers. 14.5" wide tires may nees as little as ?? 2" ??backspacing and you will probably still rub the front fenders.

Hopefully someone with 35x14.50s will chime in.

Good luck.

We need more some pics of your truck!

14.5 is a pretty wide tire what size is your rim? you will rub that tire if you get it any where near the fender

I have 8 inch rims right now. I will plan on getting some 10s.

I would go for a 12.5 wide tire. i am running 33's and should have went to 35's. the 14.5 would be good in sand. if the deal is real good then i would give it a try and switch later.

My philosophy is if you can buy them and turn around and make $ on them, its worth a try. If you couldn't atleast get your cash back out of them then I'd pass. Thats a wide tire. You could get away with the 8" wheel on a 12.50, so if the cost diff is less than a set of wheels, you're golden. You have to compare wheels + tires to just 12.50 tires.

Howdy! I am running 13.5's on 10 inch rims with 3.0 backspacing. Plenty of room to clear brakes and steering bits. You should have little or no rubbing problems with an SOA. With that tire diameter you MAY have some contact issues at the leading edge of your rear wheel wells. Not a good place to trim, so you may need to move rear axle back a bit. Not very hard to do. So nobody is running 14.5s on a 40?

what size are the tires you are running now???

Right now I have 31x10.5 15s.

My mistake earlier I put 16, but they are 15s

i have a about a 35 year old soa on my 70 i run1250 35s winter and 15.5 38s summer till it snows .i dont do much rock crawling ,but lots of trail rides and mudding it turns fine lock to lock, some rubbing on fenders on bad trails no power steering .14.50 seems wide compared to most vehicles around here usually 12.5 up to 35 tall.iknow money is tight but waiting for the right tire may work better in the long run and you may be happier with the perfomance good luck how ever you go
