I appreciate the insights on tires. I am still thinking of the Maxxis Bighorns.

I had the original GY MTR's on a work truck and I agree --- they're at the bottom of my list. I never tried the REVO, but regular Bridgestone Duelers were the overall worst tire I ever used; a friend with REVO's on his 4Runner liked them though.... the MTR was the worst mud tire and some of the all terrains were better in mud than the MTR, particularly the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo-that is the best all around tire I've ever run ...
I haven't used them but came close to buying a set of Summit Mud Dawgs; they are rebranded Bighorns and you can get them for alot less at the tire shop on GA-9 in Alpharetta (the one between Old Milton and Windy Hill that looks like a barn). I've wheeled with lots of people who ran Bighorns and the only complaints I saw/heard was about traction on packed snow and wet asphalt. Some folks tore sidewalls too but I never saw that on the east coast.I appreciate the insights on tires. I am still thinking of the Maxxis Bighorns.

Andrew,
I will have the tires in the dirt (mud) this weekend and give a report. Smitty
These are the tires I have been looking into getting in the near future COOPER DISCOVERER STT LT..I have read some pretty good reviews of them on MUD and online...treadepot.com is the cheapest place I have found the 315's, so I am assuming they have a pretty good price for the size you would need. Also Kauffman Tire will price match (I am sure other place do too)
6 months, 2 pages, 50 posts, 1 meeting and a partidge in a pear tree all dedicated to Andrew's new tires, does he have them yet??
NOOOOOOOOO!![]()
Andrew,
I picked up my set of 5 Maxxis Bighorns today from Performance Tire & Auto (Goodyear Alpharetta) 770.667.9847. First impressions are great...as they always are. I like the 315/75/16 for the size of the 80. I went ahead and had Dave give me his Out The Door price for the 255/85/16 for you. 4 tires = $750 OTD (mounted, balanced, tax), 5 tires $908 OTD. These are lower than their regualr prices since they give a GA Cruiser discount. Just ask for Dave and tell him that you are with the GA Cruisers. My 315's were $1055 for five tires OTD. I couldn't find a better deal besides online and then by the time I pay to have them mounted and balanced, I would spend more. I just wanted to pass this info on. I will have the tires in the dirt (mud) this weekend and give a report. I was happy that they did not take much weight to balance either. The expedition portal sight has some very good reviews of this tire and they test them pretty well off road. I hope to get 35k-40k with the 5 tire rotation.

That is between Old Milton Parkway and Windward Parkway. Shop is called Campbell Tire. They have an old Federal tow truck out front.
Andrew,
I think you are going to love your decision. I tested my new 315 Bighorns two weeks ago at a slippery Beasley and they worked great. The price is right and the performance seems to be very high as well. I still don't have much personal experience with them but many out west swear by them. I am happy that they handled the slick mud well as that was my only concern. We will both be testing these out together so now let's get them out on the dirt together soon!

Well finally I get off the fence, toilet, etc. and finally make a tire decision.
