I'd recommend a 285/75/16 size in a Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo or BFG KM2. The Revo is an all terrain, but is a great all around tire. It's great on rocks and pretty good in mud too. I saw ravencr on yotatech do almost every trail at Tellico on Revo's without failure of a tire and he embarassed 2 sets of MTR's in the mudpit at Crawfords with the Revo's-so bad he even did it in reverse. I have them on my Taco TRD work truck and have had zero issues and never been stuck with them-and I go offroad everyday of the week at work.

The 285's will fit with a 1" bodylift and maybe minor trimming in addition to your suspension lift. My previous '99 on 285 BFG MT KM's with 2" front and 3.5" rear lift and 1" bodylift:

The '96 4Runner I just bought has 315/75/16 (35") BFG KM2's with 2.5" front and 3.5" rear and 2" bodylift:

I have Interco's Super Swamper Radials (SSR)/TSL on my FJ and I am quite happy with them. I drive to the trails, but don't daily drive the truck. They are a radial, so they have good on road manners, but a very good tread for this area. Mihne are 32/11.50/17.

I have never (knock on wood) had a flat, ripped a sidewall, or gotten stuck somewhere without adequate traction (well, that the tire could have helped).

The SSR Series of Super Swamper Radial/TSL tires is the next generation of light truck radial tires. This series has many of the OEM sizes for Sport Utility Vehicles and 4 Wheel Drive light trucks who do not want to modify their vehicles but still need the performance of Super Swampers. The design incorporates a slightly tighter tread pattern, siping for wet pavement traction and icy conditions, greater sidewall protection with traction features and is quieter running."

I have heard good things about the BFG KM2. Thanks for the pics. So just to confirm, with a 2 inch front lift on my truck, I would have to also do a 1 inch body lift?

thanks

Maybe not but probably so, but you'd have to cut and pound more. The 285 and 255 are the same height, but the 285 is wider-that 255 is really skinny. The 1" bodylift would just give extra clearance and oddly enough usually makes the ARB bumpers fit a little better at the same time. I had the Prado bumper though, the Taco bumper may be different-the Prado ARB bumper looked better with the 1" bodylift-did not lift the bumper to match.

The 1" body lift is also cheap:

What about the Hankook Dyna Pro MT's? Check em out. Several trucks in our club run them.

Later,

hankook dynapro mt is a great tire. Going to look at a set in N.GA later today. I know a shop that sells wholesale. It's crazy.

Either that, or Cooper stt. Both good. I'd go cooper for road mannors.

I still say 255/85/16!!! Lose the flaps and do the pinch weld mod. I had a 2in lift and 1 in bl o my Taco with the mudflaps off and the pinchweld mod and no rubbing. But like Ted said do some cutting. Many people have tubbed there firewall right there to be able to fit 35's. Cut the plastic right there and pound that pinch weld down flat and see where you stand.

oh hell are we still talking about this. just buy the da** things already. :flipoff2:

Lets talk tomorrow night, I willl drive my truck to meeting and see what you all are talking about with the pinch weld, etc.

Do the 255's!!! The wide tire is what cause most of the scrubbing. Go with it. They will fit on stock rims with no worries about uca contact. KM2's, bighorns, TRXUS, whatever they are all good go with the 255. Also you should be able to get the spare up under there. I know Taco's can get a 285 up in there.

we may have actually gotten him straightened out last night, oops that sounds bad. anyway, we'll see.......

If you do the 255/85-16 thing, go with the BFG KM2's.

Bill, Thanks, it was nice meeting you over the weekend and I appreciate the input to the question of tires for my truck.

MTR's are great on road and great in rocks, but suck in the mud-old version I'm talking about. Those new MTR's do look really cool though, I'd like to see a set in person.

Are we really allowed to have a *eep picture up here? :flipoff2:

Well, the first post said "I am looking for an aggressive all terrain tire or a moderate tread mud terrain." The MT/R fills that perfectly. As an owner of MT/Rs I would challenge the MT/Rs suck in mud mantra. They are no Super Swamper but I am not interested in mud bogging anyhow. I have never been stuck in mud witht the MT/Rs.

I don't wanna plug up his thread with negative talk so I won't argue other than I have run about every mud terrain and all terrain there is on my work trucks (Forester-offroad everyday) and the MTR was the worst mud tire and some of the all terrains were better in mud than the MTR, particularly the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo-that is the best all around tire I've ever run and currently have them on 2 of my vehicles-the Burb tow vehicle and my Taco work truck. I have never run swampers on the work truck, only the '85 Crawler.

I appreciate the insights on tires. I am still thinking of the Maxxis Bighorns.
