I have just purchased a bj60. It is my first 4wd and I want to put on bigger tires for a little more ground clearance. It has 31x10.5x15 on right now. What is the pros/cons to switching to 16in rims or should I stick with the 15s and what is the biggest tire you can run without doing any mods.? I often carry heavy loads through very poor "roads" in the jungles of borneo.

16" tires used on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks have thicker ply sidewalls and sometimes are a harder rubber for working loads, there isnt much for heavy trucks with 15" rims so there isnt much for stronger built tires in 15" sizes

16s are a waste of money

stick with 15s it will save you a ton of money. look up tire prices and you will see a big difference in tire prices with different wheel sizes.

the biggest tire you can put on a stock truck is 32x11.5 or 33x9.5. but the best tire for a stock cruiser is

oops i ment 31x10.5

33x10.5s would be great, however if you switch to 16" rims, you have a bigger selection of tires in this size to choose from 285/75/16(33x11), 265/75/16(32x10.5). more tires from more manufacturers. and who makes 33x10.5s interco makes 1 and bfg makes 1. and the 16's in this size have been cheaper from my recent priceing expierience. the hard part would be finding 16" rims that fit. I could not find a cheap rim so I went with 33x9.5 just my 2 cents.....

if i was in the middle of the jungle in borneo, 16" 10 ply over 15" 5 ply. not that i dont like the 35x12.5x15 mtrs on mine, but i think if its about durability id spend the extra bucks for 16", but if its playing on trails with people i could get a ride out with then 15" works perfectly. i guess the type of shoe really depends on the path its worn. let us know more about the paths you take it on.

I dunno know but preaty poor trails through the jungles of Borneo sounds preaty bad to me.....

That's why most Land Cruiser's around the world were sold with original 16s?

thanks for the info. I am leaning towards the 16s. For strength reasons as a i carry lots of cargo and people(7 inside and another 10 on top) no rules here. Any thought on Bridgestone duellers Mud Tire it seems to be the most readily available here. I can also order in BFG muds but it is very costly to do so. I will send pics of our "roads" and let you know what I decide

i like toyos as far as wear goes, they seem to have a pretty long life span.i know of a few tree planting companies in b.c. that do lots of gravel road driving and only run toyos. some people like the duellers some dont. ive seen the sidewall go on them before at low speeds and they had a huge hole in them like you wouldnt believe. a lot of people like the bfg m/t cant say too much bad about them, you probally cant get them down there but what about cooper discoverer stt's, or maybe kumho's. personally id go with cooper stt's, sometimes you can get blemished tires pretty cheap.

Regarding rims can there are a lot of 80 series here can I use those same rims? I have not seen any toyo as of yet but i am learning that in asia you have to ask a lot of questions before you get the true answer. I can get kumhos i see a lot of those on the malaysian side. any thoughts on those tires
