Cross-posting this from the 40-Series forum:

I'm replacing some flanges on my '76 FJ40 driveshafts for my '71 FJ40 build, using FJ62 flanges. The vehicle has ~66,000 miles, so the U-joints are probably original. I cleaned them up good and squirted on some PB Blaster. The first one is in my HF 20-ton shop press but nothing doing so far. Would heat help? Or longer soaking in PB Blaster? Or both?

I was also thinking of smacking the flanges around the U-joint with a hammer and brass drift while under load, that's worked before on stubborn Pitman arms and TREs.

Any tips or hints would be appreciated.

are you saving the ujoints? or just need to get them out?
torch will take care of them or a plasma.

Holy god... my brain is fried. Joints. I did mine wrong. The fsm has great directions. I got lucky I didn’t f up my yokes. I can show you how I did mine w/ a few photos but really I did them way wrong and just got lucky.

This was how I did mine.

Set the opposing cross in a vice, smack the "C" it'll move the U joint to one side. Flip the DS over and repeat. Works amazingly well..

Also silly tip but make sure you got the clips out. I knew I had some from memory of watching videos a year before but if I hadn’t there was so much gross grim/rusty stuff in there it was hard to dicier where they were.

Thanks! That's what I ended up doing, took all of 10 minutes to do one U-joint. One of the FJ62 flanges is ready to go, the other is soaking in Simple Green overnight, then a few hours in Evapo-Rust tomorrow morning. U-joints are arriving tomorrow from Cruiser Outfitters (thanks Chris), and the yoke for the front of the rear driveshaft is arriving on Thursday from cruiserjunktion (thanks Deo). The driveshafts for my '71 FJ40 build should be done by the weekend.

Next up is the assembly of the '84 HJ47 H41 and '85 BJ45 drum parking brake split transfer case combination.

It really is remarkably easy doing it this way..
