took mine out a few years ago when I put the four speed in. Don't really remember how I did it. I will try to remember to take a look at mine and let you know. Looks like you are on the right track though.

Thanks man I appreciate it :D

Yeah I cannot sort out how it comes off exactly< I thought backing off that bolt would do it, but I guess not. :D

Grinder with a cut-off wheel! If you are saving it you are doing the right thing by asking.I got impaitent with mine, although I went to the floor shift so it did not matter for me.I know there are alot of folks who like this set-up so it would be best saved for you or to sell.

I got mine out complete, but it's been a few years...

I seem to recall having to pop out the pin that the shift arm pivots on, so the inner and outer shafts are separate from one another. I think I had to spread the clamp out to get the entire lower assembly off the steering column, but I was never intending to put it back on so I'm not sure if that's necessary or not.

I just took mine out yesterday. First I disconnected the two shifting arms (inside the engine compartment ), then took off the handle in the cab (the part you shift with), it has two spring loaded pins (near the column right where it pivots) - push them in while pulling on the handle (you can do them one at a time). Then I took off the grommet/sheetmetal holder on the firewall, and the four bolts holding the steering box to the mount, allowing the column to pivot down. I pulled the shaft free from the bracket on column on box end, then took the shaft out through the engine compartment. I left the bracket on the column.

You might have to remove the steering column to take the cab off, at this point, you just need to pop off the steering arm mounted on the box - do this first if you are going to remove the whole steering column.
