Hi all, I have a 22re I have been having some timing chain slap issues. The chain is damn loose a link is stacking at the bottom and theres tons of play on the drivers side. I know okay is normal for these to be looser on drivers side but it’s so loose it has began to eat through the top of the case above where the guide starts, I bought this truck used and the head seems clean as hell as you can tell. The inside looks excellent almost like it was all replaced or regular oil changes. The guides are in tact it’s just loose and starting to eat through there. Any ideas? Im just going to buy a whole new kit and redo the oil pump water pump and guides but I want to figure out what is causing this before throwing parts at it. Thank you for reading!

Pic with screwdriver to show how it’s loose enough to touch cover. Here’s a YouTube link woth a video I took showing how loose it is. I’ve been having idling issues as well with it running rough just gonna knock out as much as my poor wallet can take in one job.

Here’s a video of her running. Shes loud and old and you can hear the slap. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated shes my DD dont want it to die

I would replace the tired timing chain before you get a coolant/engine oil milkshake. Don't buy chinesium parts. How fast the fix happens depends on funds, parts availability, time, your skills, and tools. Do you have a factory service manual (FSM)? Hopefully, someone hasn't decided gaskets and fasteners work better with epoxy.
