My rig has 98k with the last timing belt change done by the prior owner at 63k in 2012 at a Lexus dealership.

Is there a way to in inspect the belt without taking everything apart? I couldn't find info that you can so imagine not...

Would you change the TB based on age (like the dealership did) or wait for 90k miles.

I was going to wait for the miles but considering how old the belt is, I'm starting to have reservations. Thanks

I think you are safe for now, don't waste your time inspecting it. If the job was done correctly there should be nothing to worry about IMO.
One of my trucks is way past due by 5 years and 60k miles with a Toyota TB.

^^^ DIDO.

7 years or 90K miles is spec, but they last much long unless under sever use.

If you'd like to inspect it is very easy. Just remove #1 (PS) T-belt cover. Did while soaking T-body for five minutes to kill time.

If I wanted to inspect the belt do I just need to remove these three bolts? Is there an electrical connection attached to the cover? Or is that just a wire behind where the cover is located? If I had the FSM......

IIRC is was just the three bolts. You'll know when you look it's a very easy job. 1/2:banana:

I have seen these belts go 180k without failing and years beyond spec. If it were me I would go by mileage and change yours at 150k .

Mine first replace was like yours 60k then I replaced it last month with 160k and it could have gone another 40k easily.

The po of the LC i picked up (a relative) had been mistakenly told by a mechanic that the 99 had a metal timing belt and therefore never needed changing. Obviously the mechanic was an idiot, but it meant the LC when I got it had 238k on the clock with the original tb. I changed it out in late 2015 with all the pulleys and tensioner, but the condition of the belt was such I wouldnt have been surprised if it went another 100k.

There is another long bolt where the arrow is pointing.

Not abnormal. Well engineered.

I replaced mine shortly after buying the truck. 19 years and 164kmiles on the original and it was still solid.

personally I haven't seen one of the v8 belts fail unless there was something else wrong like a waterpump that went bad and shredded the belt. as for changing by time I would if its been sitting for a long time and hast run in years. do your next belt at 155k and change the waterpump while your there
