time to check your brake lines.

For folks with AHC: there is a hydro line right above these two brake lines. Mine is toast (not a problem since the AHC is coming OUTTT) but my brake lines look new.

If you rinse off the underside of your rig once a month in the winter real good(takes like 5 or ten min.) it will slow rust way down. Many of Toyota's owners manuals mention this as well.
I did this in 2006 / 2007 when my FJ Cruiser was new. It didnt seem to help much, after just one winter it has signs of surface rust on the frame and else where. I even did it more than once a month, more like once every couple days. :( I really just need to move back to FL.

It is difficult to get way up by the brake lines. You kinda gotta get down on one knee and extend your arm to get under their real good and have an idea in your head of what you need to rinse. If you can find a car wash with warm water it seems to work better. Also get under the fenders, in the engine compartment, and up by the spare tire. You will get surface rust to some extent, but it will slow rust cancer from occuring as soon as 5 years to more like 15. Especially if you wash it with soap first.

Got my cruiser back from my local trusty mechanic. Only $145 dollars for the brake line installed! He said he used some type of material that shouldn't
rust. He said that most vehicles the line is a pain in the rear to get to but the 100 series was a piece of cake. I'm as happy as a camper. :)

Yep, that line is easily accessible. Glad the fix was relatively inexpensive. Did he inspect your other lines and all other critical but vulnerable suspension components?
