Lucky, indeed. :clap::wrench:
Does the CCOT 555 kit state 'made in japan' as well? I ask because I seem to recall that there are two 555 kits, one being less desirable.

I just got a set of "555" ends from cool cruisers for 69 dollars

I have a set of 555 brand TRE's from CCOT (box said made in Japan) - installed them 40,000 miles ago, still seem fine.

Bummer, I talked to Kurt yesterday and he did not have them in stock. He had just got a couple sets and all were Earmarked for others. Wile, I think you were one of the lucky ones!!!

Cool beans. For $69 bucks, CCOT is hard to beat, then.

I put on a set from CCoT about 4 years ago. I don't recall where they were made. I can only comment that I haven't had any issues since installation.

TRE Failure

Don't mean to hijack this, but has anyone ever had a failure of an old TRE? What and how did it happen? Was there any warning signs?

Background- I have original TRE's on my 60 and leaving on a trip Monday and haven't replaced the TRE's yet....just wondering if I'll have any issues.....

Thanks!

My didn't fail before I replaced them, so not sure about warning signs. But you can jack up the front end and give everything a good tug, and if they have slack, you'll see and feel it.

Mace, CCOT sells Chinese 555's -- I called a few weeks back and asked them to check... J.T. Outfitters also sells Chinese 555's... Napa was Chinese brand, too, but could get some Japanese ones on special order - don't remember the brand, but not 555.

Got mine from Mudrak as Kurt was out, and so was MAF and $OR (they sell Japanese 555)

Not suprising, I'll replace them when the Japaneese ones are available again.

Never heard of catastrophic failure on the tre's
Maybe someone else knows of an instance.....wheelin hard on rusted ass tre's maybe?

Only way I knew to replace mine was steering was crap with lots of slop...maybe 1" of play on either side when turning steering wheel and my boots were torn..kinda greasy

It was only when I got the alignment after the tre install that I felt the tightness come back to the steering.Still felt the same after install.
Oh and mine were probably the original tre's that made the 4hr trip home from Alabama to GA just fine 256k on the clock
hth

Incidently, I sent an email to both Joint Fuji and Japanese 555 a couple of months ago, and got a msg back from Joint Fuji rep., saying: "... if I want durability for off road use, use the OEM Toyota..." !!

There were some posts here on ih8mud where the drag link ends came apart, so it can happen. Failure in the steering system could get ugly fast.

Very very true

Thanks for the feed back!!!!

I came in slightly late on this topic but NAPA does not offer MOOG products to the best of my knowledge. Their low line (deemed Master Ride) is a chinese manufactured TRW product and their premium line is a North American manufactured SPICER product. I was a NAPA wholesale representative for 2 1/2 years and wanted to clarify this for y'all.

Thanks, DIH, for the info... But does MOOG (Federal Mogul) make TRE's for 60-series LC's ?

After I installed my lift I went to get the cruiser aligned and the shop tech came in the waiting room and then showed me it was a waste of time to align the car because the tire could wiggle back and forth a lot. while on the ground. so i promptly replaced the TRE and now very small wiggle :)

So just grab the tire and wiggle it as if it was turning and if it moves around a lot then they might need replacing

EDIT: I didn't see there was a second page. oops. well its still useful right?

S.S., I'd certainly be willing to bet that Moog does produce such parts. In my experience they manufacture a quality product for a reasonable price....

Update: Got my kit from Man-A-Fre earlier this week, its the 555 kit made in Japan. I plan on doing the install this weekend pending the Tropical Storm... One question before I start, do I need to paint these pieces before install? I seemed to recall that some needed paint.
Thanks
