I have removed the old driver's side tie rod end & have installed a new one from coolcruisers.

As you can see from the pictures, the side I installed has 3-4 threads showing and the hole for the pin is clearly above the nut.

The second picture is of the passenger side tie rod end that I have not replaced, and it only has 1, maybe 2 threads showing.

It seems to me that unless the cotter pin is seated in one of the grooves in the nut, it is worthless.

Please advise......

You of course, are right.

Send that back and buy from a different source.

In a pinch you could put some hardened washers under the nut, so that the hole will line up with one of the battlements in the castle nut.

Do a search regarding Cool Cruisers and CCoT and you will see what the problem really is.

Man! you need to work on those photography skills.

The parts' height and appearance look identicle. What could cause the extra space?

Where do I find the hardened washers & will that affect the safety, or function?

I would be concerned that the taper is wrong.

Hardened washers are like grade 8 washers available at any hardware store. If it were just one washer-no big deal but 2 or 3 would not be good for long term use.

Search the forum. CCoT is rarely the best choice in my opinion. Order from Cruiserdan for OEM, or Cruiseroutfitters, or Mudrak. I've used the Japanese made 555 brand of TREs and they are excellent.

I believe the taper is different...

Thanks for the input...I have a few more follow up questions...
Anyone can answer;

Where can I find: Cruiserdan, Cruiseroutfitters, Mudrak, or 555 brand of TREs? On this forum, or google?

The only reason I was making this repair was because the relay rod came apart from the pitman arm. When went looking for the
part coolcruisers had a kit, so I figured I would replace it all.

If I put a new boot on the original TRE and if I did not screw the threads up taking it out, is there any reason why I should not just put it back in?

check out the vendor list: IH8MUD.com - Advertisers

cruiserdan (his MUD name) is the parts guru at American Toyota. You'll find cruiser outfitters on the list as well. Google "mudrak custom cruisers" for Gary Kardum's information.

I am done!!!

I put the original tie rod end back on & just replaced the drag link end. Here are some before & after pics...

Thanks for the help!
