Moving this discussion here as to not blow up the long travel Ahc thread but today while doing broken arrow in sedona (a blast btw) I heard some gross sounds and I thought maybe CV binding at droop.

After consulting the elders of the long travel AHC crew I’m convinced that it’s not cv.

I also though maybe it was my spring rubbers possibly shortening the spring but that’s unlikely.

I poked around and everything looks normal except my driver side sway bar link. It’s clearly been rubbing, hard. And the bushing is toast.

Could this be deflecting enough to rub?

Updated. I sheared the link on broken arrow

A blown bushing could absolutely clunk - I guess if it was totally shot it could rotate - able to take a picture with the front wheels in the air? Would like to see how it moves

I'm at a rental in sedona right now with other families etc, can't get it up in the air—but definitely plan to pull the wheels and skids off when I get back.

By rotate to you mean deflect back and forth? I'm curious as to how else the shaft on the link would get so gouged.

Easy decision to just get some new ones from partsouq, they'll be waiting for me when I get back to Seatte. But very curious if that's what I'm hearing.

Yeah if the lower bushing is blown it will allow the lower link to pivot towards the LCA, arguably rubbing there. A real easy test is putting a screwdriver in between the link and the bucket it sits in to see how easily it moves.

Broken Arrow is amazing.

If you will be in Sedona for a bit and like hikes check out Soldier Pass Trail to the cave and Devil's Bridge. You can drive to the trailhead for Devils Bridge saving a lot of boring walking.

We have permits for Thursday for soldiers pass 🤞🏻

We did dry branch road past devils bridge Monday!

Appreciate the suggestions and help 🙌🏻

It would think if it’s moving around it would make sense to have a binding sound at lock and droop.

I forgot you can drive part of Soldier Pass with a permit. You will have to hike to the cave though but it's well worth it!

What have you done to the suspension? Anything other than mild sensor lift?

Sensor lift, and spring rubbers up front.
Gotcha, All of my ideas are irrelevant then... I would grab your high-lift, throw it under you slider and droop out the front side (lock the center diff). Then start looking around. It sounds like the spring compressor is causing some binding or something gave out since your wheeling.

that sway bashing looks real unhappy from that pic too.

Idk how often you can take the rig out, but I do know it’s enough to make me envious lol.

Its easy enough to do a full sway delete (6 bolts) and try again gently and be certain that was it.

Thats what i would do first.

Oh and torque check everything…

Any chance that a rock just got stuck in there temporarily? Or is this a recurring "thunk"?

I don’t think so. It’s so consistent. I’ll be home Sunday and will pull the wheels and skids and report back.

In my mind - the sound kept leading me to what sounded like a spring. If all of the sway bushings are toast, it’s likely moving around and possibly thumping back into place. The gouge on the link looks really nasty, like a lot of movement at full droop and compression.

Guys. Smoking gun.

I sheared the link off the bar completely.

I’m not going to attempt to take this off in the driveway of a rental house so it’s going to have to thump a few days.

Easy fix :)

Good man! Time to delete or upgrade lol. Does insurance cover this sort of “incident”?
