*To date I've only observed the noise after extended highway run times, so wondering if temperature is a contributing factor

The noise only occurs when slowing to a complete stop. Regular or quick stops with brakes applied. Coasting very slowly to a stop does not seem to cause it. NO noise upon acceleration. Suspension and brakes feel good with no noise or vibrations, as does the transmission, in all other scenarios

Day to day driving I don't experience the noise. It has only been on multiple road trips when slowing to pay a highway toll after hours of driving where I've noticed it. I'm fairly sure it is coming from the front or center of the vehicle

Does this sound like it could be transmission related on the 2-1 downshift? (and is only occurring when AT fluid reaches a certain temp?) It seems like if it were worn out bushings or other components it would occur much more frequently

Any thoughts are appreciated. This is on a 2006 LX with 95k miles. Plenty of "thud" threads around but it seems like most are different than this one

I'm glad that is the first two suggestions

I should’ve mentioned I've not tried greasing u-joints/yokes yet (and when they were last greased is anyone’s guess)

That was going to be my first course of action, though I was a bit skeptical because of how infrequent the noise is

Hopefully (probably?) it really is as simple as that
