Any opinions on the best way to lubricate the throttle, choke & cowl cables? Before I load 'em up with WD40, I wanted to check if there was a better solution. I was also thinking that oil collects dust, which may equal more drag than leaving as-is.

Thanks,
Brian

Do you spray graphite on all your carb linkage as well vs. light weight oil (e.g. WD40)?

thanks,
Brian

WD40 works in a pinch. During my rebuild I completely removed them, derusted, and stuck them in a new bottle of gear oil and soaked them for like 3 months. Worked great after that!

But any petroleum based lube will work. Graphite works too.

Good suggestion on soaking it as the challenge with trying to spray into the cable is getting it to flow through the length of the cable. You mentioned gear oil. You mean like 90 weight-type oil? I would have thought a lighter weight oil would be better. Just curious. thanks!

You could probably soak it in some Diesel as well. After a bit, move the cables in and out of the sheath so the diesel will penetrate from one end to the other.

Diesle is good too. Basically anything that cleans and then lubes. I just happened to use 90w gear oil. My cable was the metal type with a solid core so I just wiped it down and installed. Good to go.

What ever you use you'll forget about it shortly cause it'll just work.

Trekker, that is pretty funny. You're right. I think I'm over-analyzing this one. :p I think I'm sold on diesel idea as it will clean and lubricate at the same time.
