I am going to look at this 60 way up in NH. The guys is asking $3,200. It has 113K miles and the owner states that it is rust free. He also said that he does not ever drive it in the winter. What do you guys think. Is this color combination very common?

Well, it might not be rust free...looks likes something is started on that rear quarter. Take a magnet with you cause it might be a repaint with a lot of bondo underneath. Also, wear some old clothes and get underneath. The rear frame and around the rear shocks will tell you a lot. If it is not rusted and only has 115K miles it is a good deal.

Looks nice! There was a white FJ60 at Ipswich a couple of years ago, but it was rusted. That being said, white isn't very common (I don't think). Check it out closely for rust, but from here, it looks nice. :cheers:Ned

I would also pry off the inside rear panels and look inside those quarters with a bright flashlight. I doubt the body and frame could stay perfect with those center caps looking like that. Check the seams on the bottoms of all the doors, and the bottom of the tailgate.

Truck looks awesome. As for the color combination, I have the same combo on my rig and I love it!

Sounds reasonalble. I paid $3,000 for my 1988 FJ62 with 280,000 mi no rust at all.

Looks just like mine

That is the same set up I have on my 87. Looks like a pretty good deal.

Some bonus thoughts on an 87.
5-speed is a fairly straight forward swap. I have heard. Not done on my rig yet.

Has some of the pre-62 setups. (Hole for rear shoulder seat belts, location holes and brackets for the rear sway bars.)

I would bet $500 bucks that thing is loaded with bondo. Welcome to Yankee-Land. Save your money, buy a TX truck and have it shipped up. Anyone local on the board (including myself) would be totally willing to go check one out for you. Yankee-land trucks are good for one thing: keeping the southern truck with a constant flow of used parts...

I have that exact same year and color scheme. The front seats look to be replaced or have new upholstery. Mine had 220,000 miles when I bought it for $800, but I have replaced the fuel pump, water pump, fan clutch, front rotors, redid the knuckle and wheel bearings, and put new hubs on so if you look at what I got into it I probably have paid about the same amount. Depending on how it runs and if it really is rust free thats not bad at all considering its mileage.

Did they make the brown interior in 1987? I thought you could only get gray after 1985??!?!

Nope! I have an 87 with a Brown interior.

I second the z-man on the rust.
I have no doubt that has rust - for me, its not a definite deal breaker, but maybe you can get some money off. I bet you won't have to look hard. Just look at the rear under-carriage, you'll see plenty of rust.

I also have the same year and color scheme and the front seats look like they've been replaced, or recovered, like coolotisdog said. Everything else looks identical.

Looks reall nice though I'd be a little suspicious of anyone who wouldn't drive their 60 in the winter all that fun missed out on. ;)

You guys need to check your bad vibes at the door!

BELIEVE in the rust-free, low-mileage survivor!

I wish you the best. X2 on the magnet bondo check, and look underneath in back, where the frame C-channel supports are riveted in near the spring perches.

In 2000 I bought a "rust free" OR FJ60 and had it shipped to NY. It was mostly rust free, save for some bondo. Buyer beware!

I lived in Syracuse, NY for 7 years. My cruiser spent almost all winter time in a garage. Nothing like having your car turn white from all the road salt. You'd see 5-10 year old cars driving around with rust holes.

I drove a beater to beat the rust. There were TWO white FJ60s in town that had so much rust it was amazing they were still running. One guy worked at NAPA, so I got to know him. He told me one day he picked a truck up from a guy who just moved from California in his FJ60. Got in a fender bender, truck was "totalled" $$ wise, so he sold it cheap to the guy at NAPA because he'd driven by and seen the rusty FJ60!

"Hi, good morning, that your FJ60 out there? Want to buy my rust-free truck for $500?" Talk about lucky.

The other guy had a FJ60 and his son rebuilt a FJ40 in their garage.

I am rambling...

Take some detailed under body shots for us armchair speculators, and GOOD LUCK!

I've got an 83 with the same color combo. Check the rear cargo area under the carpet. Good Luck!

:):):):):):):):) truck!!!
