OK...2622 :grinpimp:

That's an even number last I checked

How about just e-mailing TRAILS to me. I could print what articles I want. TLCA saves money on one less magazine. But up my dues if need be.

Dues were raised at last week's BOD meeting (Sept. 2006). The proposal was $3 across the board, except for business memberships. The motion was passed by a very wide margin. Meeting minutes can be read here:

Over the years, we've discussed making the publication available to members electronically. It is a complicated issue, but would save our overseas members a lot of postage. There are many pros and cons, probably worthy of a separate thread. But as Matt noted, a $3 annual dues increase for each type of individual membership was approved on 9/21/06, to go into effect 1/1/07.

my two cents

And you can have an extra $5 dollars for dues if we decide to go that way. This is an email I sent to Alan Loshbaugh about our current membership drought and lack of awareness about TLCA. Might be a dumb idea but I have seen others more elaborate and more expensive succeed.

Alan,
Received my latest issue of TT and was reading about our plight of stagnant membership growth and renewal. I got an idea that might help our situation.

In order to raise membership, we need to raise awareness of the TLCA organization and what we do/stand for. Here are my thoughts and you get them for free.

The germ of the idea is to get TV exposure, for TLCA, for very little money. How do we do that you may ask? Well since TLCA does not have a million dollars to do a TV spot we have to be a little smarter-think co branding or marketing as some like to call it.

Currently running on the Power Block (a series of TV shows appearing together on Spike TV/TNT) are two shows that deal with trucks and the 4x4 life style. Maybe you have seen them. One is Extreme 4x4 the other is Trucks. Ian and a lovely young lady named Jesse Combs host Extreme 4x4. She is reason enough to watch the show. Two guys host trucks and I can’t remember their names.

Here is my idea in a nutshell. TLCA could reach out to the producers of these shows (I prefer Extreme 4x4 over Trucks so I will use them as my example). If you pay attention to the end credits of the shows, the same interests produce them both. The club would agree to donate a vintage FJ40 to be part of a build-up on the show. These build-ups usually take place over 3-4 episodes of the show. Extreme 4x4 recently did a buggy build-up on a trashed FJ60 or 62. So they are not afraid of doing a foreign vehicle. We would need to reach out to people and vendors that support us and who we support by purchasing their products. We get them to donate parts to the build. Of course they would get proper mention and exposure on the show. Free advertising-who can say no to that. The build-up would be promoted as a give away. The completed vehicle would be auctioned off or given away via raffle. To register weekly for the give away or to be part of the auction viewers would be direct by the hosts to the TLCA website. On the site visitors could register and find out more about us. Great exposure for us and we could prompt visitors who own Toyotas to join. If the hosts mention TLCA just once in a 30 minute TV show, it's like getting a 30 second TV spot for free.

Right now it is just a germ but worth some thought. There are lots of logistics to figure out like where is the donor FJ40 coming from. What vendors would be interested in supporting the build and so forth. I will post this on the ih8mud thread as well. Others may have suggestions.

Jesse Combs is aware of the TLCA. She came to the Roundup two years ago.

It was last year. Butch and I gave her a little 'ride' she won't soon forget!;p

Mark, if it was you, I'm sure it's a nightmare she relives too often. Probably wakes up in a cold sweat

I think that part involved Frydaddy! He was DEFINITELY putting the moves on her!:censor:

I think $3-$5 is a drop in the bucket for what we get IMHO.

As the Bayou State Land Cruisers (BSLCA) starts up (thanks much woody) we hope to be signing new folks as well.. every one counts.

Thanks again.
I like the online version of the magazine to save a few $$$.
Many periodicals do this... but hey, I'm just s spoke in the wheel!

The problem with the online version is that TLCA gets zero, nada, zilch to offset your viewing our premier publication online. We pay a lot to produce this work, and the only compensation TLCA gets is from MEMBERSHIP dues and ad sales.

Toyota Trails needs to continue to be a membership perk. It started out as a newsletter and has morphed into a world-class publication, but making it entirely available for free online diminishes both it's quality and our financial ability to produce and distribute it.

If you and others with a similar viewpoint want to read Toyota Trails online without paying your dues to save a few bucks, it will be gone. While "many" periodicals do this, we are not one of "many" periodicals. Toyota Trails is the official publication of the Toyota Land Cruiser Association, it is not a newspaper, portal or generic publication. If we were to offer it entirely online for free, Trails would cease to exist. Do you want that?

Happy cruisin'!

I could be wrong but after reading the BOD emails and most recently published TT rag, I could have sworn that this was already voted on and dues were approved to be increased. I think this is a dead issue for all intents and purposes.

I'm a new member but I've read enough of the history of this club and seen the evidence in Toyota Trails to know that an membership fee increase, if needed, should be done.

I'm for it.
