Hi To all
I love and drive classic cars. I have couple of e-type jaguars at my garage New York and I love to drive and restore them. I am from Turkey and I spend one summer month every year over there.
I came a cross with this fj40. I looks OK except some usual rust spots, rear quarter panels, rear sills, under drivers seat . I am not looking for concourse car anyhow . I am planning to keep overseas and drive causally, no offroading.
Every thing need to done , including tired 2f engine. But still running driving. They told me that down the road they keep all the chassis , engine , running gear and changed the tub with less rusty one. To me it is definitely unacceptable for classic car but in Turkey diesel swaps to 3b, chassis swaps are pretty common. Even the owner is claiming that " it is like a buying new tub"!!??
Same questions again
1. How much it is worth??
2. How do you restore it? Keeping stock or modifications??
If anyone of you guys evaluate the car and give me some info and guidance, really appreciated. I have tons of pics but only can post 5 in forum. I can e-mail you
my e-mail is tufankaraosmanoglu@yahoo.com
Thank You all
Tufan

I am guessing it's an '83?

Tell us how much they are asking for it.

And show photos of the worst rust.

*Edited: Would be informative to see close up photos of the data plates as well.

It would depend on what they go for in Turkey. Each market is different and what it is worth here in the U.S. won't help you decide what it is worth over there. Are you planning to bring it to NY or leave it there?

for 12k they are installing a rust free tub on it?

I wasn't seeing a tremendous amount wrong with the tub in the first place compared to most 40s of that vintage.

The undercarriage is about as clean as you could hope for.

Overall the vehicle doesn't appear to have been beat on at all.

And it appears to be complete and unmodified.

Pretty much what ever buyer wants. So yeah, even before the frame repaint and whatever else they are doing to the tub I would say $12K is a fair ballpark price.

As far as your question on restoration or modification, I would add front Toyota disc brakes and factory powering steering, return everything else to its original glory and be done with it.

I thought those were pictures of them putting the tub on that id rusted now. It isn't horrible but it isn't 12K IMHO. Having said that, I would have a different opinion if it had PS and Disks. I would have to see the inside of the tub and door bottoms etc... a lot better. I think the pictures are from a while ago if the first pictures are from now.

Thank you Old red.
As I stated before I am not buying ,selling or trading to bring it to US. I just want to learn if this is "the fj40 " that I can restore it over the time and drive , enjoy it time being.

What old red said...also use por-15 or NOT a bedliner for the undercarriage and frame.

What? They are scrapping the original tub?

That's nuts. I guess I am not fully understanding what is for sale at what price and in what condition.

My bias is for original, unmessed-with FJ40s. And that bias causes me to place a higher value on originality than perhaps is always prudent or justifiable.

I totally agree Old red. I am in your side buttttt. I heard unbelievable stories but it what it is.
I even try to save one hj45 pick up they butchered it . It was all original.

Thats not all that bad. The doors look pretty solid. Do the back amby doors look as good?
