Ok, I think I have figured it out.

With the kind of use I will have with my truck, I would like to go with the OME stock height 861-862 springs, Bilsteins B461477/B461478 and Revo 33s.

Eventually I want to go with Kaymar in the rear and the arb, maybe sliders... Ijust hope it won't drop too much or the tires won't touch with that non-lift.

Anybody running that setup?
It will look awesome!

So you are not going to do any wheelin? If you do stock height, you will have a problem with rubbing because your ARB, and Kaymar will eventually bring your rig down. I did med. height and my rig still came down with my arb, sliders, and hanna. I regret not doing Heavy, when and I a winch and 2nd bat. it will come down even more.

I won't be doing any hard wheeling, mainly dirt roads and logging roads, a lot of washboard. That is one of the reason I posted it is to get feedback.

My calculation is that people get around 1,5-2 in lift by putting the stock height springs and the arb/kaymar would bring it back down to ''real'' stock height, which is supposed to be ok with the 33 in revos.

Am I lost in left field?

Those who I know who have gone stock height OME have since traded up to either the medium or heavy springs. IMO, stock height's a waste of time and $$$ if you plan on adding anything to your truck or plan on hitting anything more than fire roads. The 33s might rub on the bigger ruts if you're travelling at any kind of decent speed.

Just my opinion.

Do you wheel these logging roads now with your vehicle stock? Seems odd to want to slightly wheel a vehicle, but be ok with it at stock height. I don't doubt the new suspension will feel better, but as Doug said, seems like alot of work and money to go nowhere essentially.

Have you driven a lifted 80? Most people that drive one with atleast OME medium really love it and want that or even higher...if you haven't driven one, try to find someone that will let you cruise around in their's for a bit, ideally offroad, just to feel the vehicle...

Why not just add medium duty, cost about the same.

even if you do no wheelin, having a little bit more ground clearance is not a bad thing. You will eventually hit a rut, or rock on one of the dirt roads and thats when you'll start feelin the clearance. just my.02 cents

I used to drive my turbo'd 60 with a 851/860 w/arb+winch and it was ok, but I didn't like the ome shocks, they were a lot better than my old stock 60, but not what I was looking for. I never even had to use the winch once but I agree it is nice to have just in case.

I am driving the troopie as a DD now and it has a 2.5/3 in lift (don't know which one, I guess OME since I have the OME clunk when turning hard at low speed) and Ironman shocks. The ride is a lot smoother than with the 60, but I can't obviously compare it to the 80 series as I have not driven a lifted one yet.

If I go with the 850/860 I would put the caster bushings too, but I just want to look at other options before spending the big bucks. After doing some research in the older posts, the Js are going to be to high for me. I don't want to go higher than 2in ideally. This is still a dd and a family vehicle.

sounds like mediums might be right for you (I'm going to keep trying to talk you out of the stock height springs ;))

Might be different with the 60 (leafs), but I've never noticed any clunk with 80 springs. Bilsteins are good shocks, so I've heard -- I know of a member or two on this forum with them (a search should turn their names up) -- they're said to be better capable of handling washboards.

I'm happy enough with my OME shocks/springs.

at $65 US each for the bilsteins it is a pretty good deal, I hope the shipping won't kill me. Yeah, I guess the mediums would be the way to go... Thanks Doug

I have had Bilstein HD shocks all around for 2+ years and am quite pleased with the on and off road ride, even the :princess: made a comment about a better ride. My primary off road surface is beach sand so I also have no real need for height, no boulders and such to worry about.

Med or Heavy as Doug already said. Especially for expedition. With standard added gear that you have already mentioned then you have to consider how much weight you will add when you throw all of your assorted gear/crap inside the truck. With the light you could end up with less than stock fully loaded down.

I would not go with the stock height if you plan to run 33" tires and add any weight...then go over anything off road. Would work for posing, not for anything that I'd call wheeling (no offense to the posers among us :) )

My $0.02 FWIW

I have the Revo 33's and original springs w/ 90K on them. I haven't wheeled it yet, I have no clearance issues on road, but you can tell it is close.

I thought about doing what you are doing, as I wanted to do lift first as it will be awhille before I do the other mods. Do some searches here, I became quickly convinced stock was not the way to go.

I want at least 2" over what I have now, and that means at least mediums long term for when I add the weight.
I think lights would get that 2 inches, but I'd be right back where I started once the mods are added, ie cutting it close.

Look at the clearance on my rig in Cruisergarage and you'll see the light. Or better yet:

And yes, my tires that first week (well the whole rig) be shinin Mall Cruiser style!

Keep those pics for EBay .. one day ;)

I haven't even got my rig yet (seller was on vacation and lost title, gotta wait another week), but I was thinking about doing something similar to Ductape's idea. I don't plan to get an ARB though. I had Bilsteins on my 1990 2dr 4Runner and loved how they handled. What about the stock replacement springs with the Mr.Gasket spacers and Bilstein's, wouldn't that provide about a true 1.5- 2" lift?

Oh, btw, where did you see the Bilstein's for $65 ea? The lowest I've seen them is about $78 ea.

Nice truck Sky....LOL taking pics from the "good side" like I do with the inherited trail carnage on my 60 I see....

But damn, you have heavies? I guess the new rear bumper will bring it down a bit, plus gear, to get rid of the (no offense) slight stink bug stance, ya think? I guess your true 33s are probably larger than my 285s, but the front clearance you have is about what I'm after.

Do you have spacers up front?

Will the Hanna bring the rear that much further down? If you have the heavies at the rear, it must be at least 200 kg they say, the hanna is probably around 175 pounds. Other than that, looks great.
