Thinking of trading in my 2017 GX 460 for a 2016+ LX 570 or Landcruiser

Tex68,
Are those measurements of the cargo area with the second row all the way back?
The numbers surprise me in how similar the two vehicles are. I went from a GX460 to a LC200 because I wanted to be able to haul more and am constantly gruntled by how much more stuff I can carry. I don’t bother to bring the Yakima skybox on road trips anymore because of all the extra room inside the vehicle.
But I will say that I slide the second row forward a bit. My dog gets the entire second row, and doesn’t need the footwells.
(This was the case on the GX as well).

On the other hand, I much preferred driving the GX about town. Maybe it’s just in my head, but narrow roads and parking lots scare me much more with the LC than they ever did with the GX. Even getting up and down my driveway is a bit more at a chore now.

Yes, this is with the second row seats all the way back, same for the 200. The 200 has more head room and that certainly helps with the feeling of more room IMHO. The 200 is bigger, there's no argument there, it's just not nearly as big as we'd like to think that it is and the delta between the two is much smaller than we'd like to admit.

One thing to keep in mind. The 2016+ lx570’s come in 20 inch wheels, but they also come with 21 inch wheels. 21’s freaking suck. Limited replacement options and they look terrible. Unfortunately, the premium package comes with the 21’s.
Plan on buying aftermarket wheels to replace. Tundra takeoffs are cheap and plentiful.

The lx570 is simply the finest, most reliable, most capable, safest vehicle I’ve ever owned. I daily mine with 33’s on my 20 inch wheels and love everything about em.

As for 33’s (and larger). 33’s will fit but you will have to do some work to the front fender liners with a heat gun and zip ties on the posterior side or remove the front mud flaps.

Are you referring to the GX or LX?

My wife has a 22 GX and me a 21 LC. My Cruiser always gets the nod for our family trips (2 adults & 3 kids) and airport runs. The one huge factor for us is the extra, although just inches, of storage behind the 3rd row seat when it is down for a passenger. We can stand up a full Samsonite 50 pound luggage bag there and it makes a world of difference.

I owned a GX460 for 3 years before moving onto to an LC200. I have the same experience. After I put all of our gear in the 200, I keep thinking I forgot to pack a few items because I have extra space. I also have stopped using my skybox for the same reason. If someone wants or needs the extra space the LX570 is a great move imo.

LOL, that photo was actually the test fit for a cross country trip. Now I know I need some rear coil air bags to limit that sag in the future. Wife's GX would auto level the rear though.....

I respectfully disagree with your assessment as someone who currently owns both and has previously owned multiples of both and often at the same time like I do currently. Yes, the GX doesn't feel as robust or tank like as the 200 but it weighs 600-700lbs less and likely has half of the sound dampening material as well. The GX does however feel as luxurious as the Cruiser (not quite as nice as the LX) and it's worlds better than it's step sibling the 5th Gen 4Runner (we had multiples of those as well). The sticker on our GX was $60K and the Cruiser was $86K, for $26K less it has slightly better headlights, a better screen/infotainment (Carplay), and it has a robust and reliable transmission and V8 as well (albeit much smaller than the 200's). There's a lot to like for a vehicle that is two thirds the cost new and in the current market is cheaper than the 200 by an even larger margin.

If I could only have one it would undoubtedly be the 200, but the GX is no slouch and it's a great alternative for those seeking an arguably better town car/daily driver.

I agree, it is not what I would consider a true full-size, I would coin it a 7/8-scale full-size or a compact full-size lol.

I went out and pulled the tape on both vehicles cargo areas just to see how close they really are. Keep in mind that I have my third row seats removed in my 200 and the GX has the third row folded flat into the floor. I have the depth measured from the opening to the lower seat back, the width at both its narrowest and widest dimensions and the height at it's lowest point which is at or near the opening at the rear.

GX460

37" deep
43" wide (narrowest)
51" wide (widest)
33.75" tall

Land Cruiser 200

42.5" deep
41.5" wide (narrowest)
55.5" wide (widest)
35.5" tall

As you can see, there is very little difference in the cargo dimensions but the 200 does feel bigger in reality than it actually is on paper. The 200 does have more depth from the rear of the wheel wells which is where both have their narrowest dimension.
Thank you for this. Yes, that extra length really helps but like others have said the difference is not much.

Another thing i found out is the real world acceleration is about the same between the GX and LX. I always thought yeah the 200 weighs more but it has a lot more power and displacement and has more performance.

I'm trying to decide between a 200 and GX460
Could someone provide the measurements for the cargo opening like this for either vehicle?
I need to be able to get a 48"x48" frame in the rear on occasion.

I measured the width at the cargo net hooks which appears to be the widest point and the diagonal from corner to corner.

GX460

47.5" wide
52" diagonal

200

52" wide
57" diagonal

That's weird, I'm running 33s and didn't have to do anything.
I had fairly significant rub at about 1/2 lock. Many others with the same tire size report the same. I have a 2013 LX no sensor lift. I also had rubbing on 275/60-20 on the OEM 20’s.

Perhaps alignment or something. I also have a 2013 LX with no lift and same size tires but I get no rubbing. I ran mud terrains and now all terrains in that size. I also see a lot of people in here fitting 33s with very little or no modifications. It looks like you had to move your liner a fair amount.

Probably had to move it 3/4”. I had no rubbing at all when I was on 32” tires. 275/65-18 on my winters and 275/55-20 summer.

Dialing in more caster will move the tire forward and away the body mount hard point. Avoiding UCAs with caster correction can help as those achieve caster by moving the upper link rearward towards the body mount.

Hi everyone, I’m considering trading up my 2017 Lexus GX 460 Premium for a 2016+ Lexus LX 570.

I love my GX 460 and the off road capability with luxury that it offers, however I need a little more space in my SUV, so I’ve been looking at a 2016+ Toyota Landcruiser, but those SUV’s are north of $90K with decent miles.

As a result, I’ve been looking at a 2016+ Lexus LX 570 which has more luxury features and sells for much less.

I do the occasional off roading but mostly pavement use, so the LX 570 should work well for me and my family.

I’m looking for anything around 30K - 50K miles for anywhere between $60K and $70K, so is that a reasonable price range for what I’m looking for?

Also with the height control system, is it an airbag system or hydraulic?

I also understand that with the height control system, I cannot apply a lift kit, so is it possible to drive around at the highest setting or is the highest setting only available when off roading or while using 4 low?

Some members on here are trying to convince you to buy the LX, you should listen to them. I'm biased obviously, but unless you need King 3.0 shocks for high speed Baja runs, I think you will be happier with the LX.
