As I slowly keep putting more and more money into my truck and I keep seeing people looking for their stolen Land cruisers on this fourm. I can't help but be concerned about mine driving away without me...

I already have a switch that shuts off the ignition, although it really isn't hidden and probably should be. Also a glow button and I do leave my transfercase in neutral when I go for walks in remote places... All these things can easily be figured out...

Also I know how helpful the local police are with vehicle thefts as a friend of mine had his truck stolen, it eventually showed up on a different frame, the guy found with it had bought it from someone. The police shrugged their shoulders and never bothered to follow the path back to who originally stole it. Insurance helped my friend get a new truck, but he still prefers his old mint truck...

All that being said, something like lo jack or a GPS tracker for me is the best option... I wouldn't be as concerned with it driving away and also knowing the exact destination of the truck I may actually be able to get help from police...

I just know even if I got the truck appraised and paid insurance on it for 10 or 15k which I plan on doing. It wouldn't be easy to replace as there are fewer and fewer LHD 70 CDM specs that aren't totaled with cancer and at the end of the day I would still want MY truck back...

Any thoughts comments etc, would be greatly appreciated!

Before anyone says it, I am well aware that if someone is keen on getting it and will stop at nothing, they're probably going to get it!

With a diesel there are some simple things you can do with the engine shut-off vacuum circuit that will make it very difficult to start. I won't go into details on a public forum.

Thanks, but it's already done... I really just need to hide the switch somewhere good...

I'm asking about lo jack or a tracker of some kind because even if the truck was winched up onto a trailer or towed away by another truck. I would still be able to find her...

I do think relocation of that switch will be priority though! Maybe inside the glove box and I'll lock it when parked for extended periods in remote locations...

a tracking device would work fine ...
at least you can sleep at night knowing exactly where your baby is being raped for parts or abused by uncaring hands.

Cops do not give a rats ass about stolen vehicles. now if the vehicle had some drugs or a gun hidden in it then they would be on it in a second
so
when it goes stolen tell them you don't care about the truck but you really want your pistol back ...
might work.

Intersting, it would be good to hear more about the system.

What electronics are involved, is there a monthly fee, how much, etc.

Lol, I've witnessed first hand just how much cops could care less about a persons vehicle... It's pretty sad they'll be at a walmart in 5 minutes if someone steals a loaf of bread, but if your truck disappears they won't even come to your house for a picture of it...

good idea I like!

the add for this tracker mentions cutting off the fuel supply, im not sure how its done though, i think it can operate a relay

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

I kinda of like the looks of this, but after browsing threw the add, why the heck would you want to cut off oil supply? So your engine won't be worth anything to the thiefs?

I think it is more like what i'am looking for... thanks!

That would be great if your car is a diesel, so you only connect the cutt off solenoid on the dieselpumps magnetig stop valve. easy like 123.

Thieves like to get into the car and get going quickly ,the longer they spend trying to get the car mobile ,the bigger the risk of being caught.
Sometimes getting caught by an irate owner is more punishing than being caught by the cops.

So ,multiple lines of defence are the way to do it.
I still use one of those old steering wheel locks for starters backed up with immobilisers and other things.
Ill make them stand there for an hour if they really want it.

I also put some thought into where I park it. I try and park it under lights near exit doors, thieves dont like bright lights where they can be seen from a distance or close to exits where the owner could walk out at any time.

I heard a funny story story about a young guy who had his Hilux stolen in Tasmania a few years back.
A few days after he had reported it stolen he got a tipoff on its whereabouts.
He rang the local police who promised to investigate it straight away.
Because he lived close to the thieves, him and his mate beat the cops there and when the cops arrived the owner and his mate were busy telling the thieves how much they appreciated them stealing his hilux for parts.
So for the next 5 mins or so the cops stood looking in the opposite direction until the dust had settled and then went and arrested the bruised and bloodied thieves LOL

"don't care about the truck but you really want your pistol back" .......Your theory needs a little bit of fine tuning....substitute
4 cases of fresh donuts for the pistol and the local cops will use all of their resources.:)

A guy in our club installed a APRS Tracker in his truck.
Automatic Packet Reporting System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's basically a HAM that sends out a pulse signal every 15-30 seconds and has it's own IP address (I think). Anyone with the link can look it up and it overlays the signal onto Google Maps. I think he was in for ~$400 or so, but not sure.

The upside is no subscription fees ever. The downside is you need a HAM license and need to have digi-peaters in your area.

I'm no expert, but here is some more info:
