Thinking of selling my 200... (1 Viewer)

Another reason: I can get a 2010 4runner (that just came out), get a Revtek lift and fit 33" x 12.5" tires on without rub...I can't even fit that on an 200 without rub???

Kinda bugs me to be honest.

That doesn't really help out your mpg's in the city... Which is where you say you are spending most of your time.

I think you need to give the 200 aftermarket some time to catch up. The 100 series aftermarket is really starting to come alive now. It will take a little while to build up some steam for the 200.

I would keep the 200, and find a 911, you pick the year that speaks to you. That's my plan anyway!

LC200 + bumper w/ winch = way cooler... ask your son.

+1000!!!!

Or you could do what I'm doing this weekend and own BOTH!

Picking up a 2010 4Runner Limited in white this weekend (or next). It's the GF's vehicle... :D

It has the NV package and a few other things (remote start, cargo racks, floor mats, etc). Price is very close to invoice :bounce:

I'll let you know how I like it after a few weeks...

I like the trail edition a lot -- but don't need it with the LC around.

Slee just completed the second ever SAS on a 100 series.

Why not get the first ever SAS on a 200?

That should give you plenty of clearance for any tire you want, lol.

So I took the 4rnr out today for a good test, no offroad though. What a fun little truck it is. I am more torn now. It handles really well, and is actually fun to drive in traffic and city. Hwy isn't bad either. Plenty of power but it just doesn't compare to the LC...apples and oranges.

One interesting note: I did the math and I would save about $2800/yr in fuel costs. I know it doesn't compare to the loss in selling my current truck, but it does intrigue me a bit.

Your mother should slap you for even thinking about trading in your LC for a 4R!!!

Like you said, they're "apples and oranges". Don't be a fruit

What?! You are serious. I followed the thread thinking you would snap out of it then this. Don't do it man! In this price range the math is not a factor, else you would have purchased the 4rnr before the lc. Save that $2800 and buy you a 60 or 62 series and have fun all over again. I went down that road and now enjoy hopping in the 200 on weekends. Feels like new all over again. Where's Dr. Phil when you need him.

I'm deadly serious.
Making the move accross the country to a big city and not being able to wheel regularily makes the LC kinda useless. I don't tow, can't wheel, and we just got the Q7 diesel which replaces the LC for long haul and family roadtrips. I feel kinda stupid having a modded mall cruiser. I laugh at Hummers on the road and then immediately think of what in driving.

I think chimyz should do what he thinks is best for him and his family. Either he will realize it was a mistake in 6 months, or realizes it was a good choice. Do what you think is best, take a few suggestions from the forum, then the rest is you to decide.

You'll either be back in a LC in a few months with more aftermarket options available to you, or you will like the 4RNR. Best of luck, I will let this ride out and hopefully you do make the best choice.

:beer::cheers:

Don't understand why you don't just take the mods off the 200 and see how you feel about it?
Might be a good half step. If it still bugs you, sell it and get the 4R.

Thanks for the comment. I am torn with this thought in my head and look forward to everyone who has commented. I love toyotas and specifically LCs so it is not a light decision, but yet something that I need to mull over.

Haven't made a decision yet, because everytime I pass the front window, I get a glance of my truck and find myself staring for at least a few seconds...funny, I've never had that on any other vehicle. The rig is also the best hwy driving vehicle I have ever driven. :bang: I wish I could get this out of my head.

Thanks again to all on mud...I appreciate being able to share these ideas and thoughts to like minded people without prejudice.

I know this is a wild shot but have you considered a newer (06-07) 100 series? Aftermarket goodies are just starting to really pop up for these things and they have been out since 98! It's smaller (not much) than the 200, and just as capable. It's worth considering in my mind, you'll stay in the LC (which is specialized for offroad terrain, the 4RNR in my mind is a generic SUV with some offroad stuff slapped on it) and have the quality, as well as have the cool aftermarket stuff that is coming out. Give it a thought, it couldn't hurt. Although the gas mileage isn't any better...

Well I picked up the '10 4Runner Limited last night. It's blizzard white with tan interior.

Sweet vehicle, but nothing like the LC. My LC rides better even with the lift, tires, etc. The 4R engine is pretty sweet for being a V6, but no where near as torque-y as the LC. Also, the interior refinement is obviously better in the LC.

A few features which are interesting are:
* 4R does not have memory seats for different drivers

* The side mirrors do not dip in reverse

* The 4R has lots of 12V outlets and 2x 120V outlets. I really wish my LC had more -- stupid that there aren't any but 2 in the front (I need to add a rear one)

* Factory sound quality isn't nearly as good even though both systems are JBL systems

* Party Mode is kinda stupid to be honest. There is already a "fade' adjustment as will all systems that can do this -- not sure what the big deal is

* The middle row folds nearly flat and much nicer refinement here than the LC's flip up seats with the strap that hooks on the "o-s***-handles"

* Bluetooth audio is awesome if you have an iphone or other ADAP device! music is streamed over bluetooth and then an incoming call can interrupt it. once the call is finished, the music resumes.

* The rear cargo slide out tray is pretty neat due to the fact that the bumper sticks out quite a bit. Makes it easy for shorter people to get groceries and stuff.

* I still need to figure out the smart key stuff (yeah, I know, I need to RTFM) but it appears the smart key sensors are not in the rear door handles, so you cannot touch a rear door first to unlock all the doors. I like the safety feature of having only the driver's door unlock that door and not all of them at once.

* The customizations for unlocking/locking/windows etc need to be done by Toyota and cannot be done by key commands like in the LC.

* Obviously there are some AC differences like no rear AC vents except behind the center console and no rear air controls/heated rear seats.

* I like the new nav system layout, but the screen resolution bothers me a bit. It's not "crisp".

* The NV package which adds the nav screen and backup camera takes away the rear intuitive parking sensors, whereas on the LC we get both systems.

* I've always liked the powered rear glass in the 4R idea.

I'm sure I'll find more differences as time goes on, but so far it's pretty sweet!

Just something interesting: there is a LOT of unused space in the engine bay. I wonder what other engine options Toyota might come out with or what they were thinking of putting there...

Plain and simple though -- nothing compares to the LC.

If you guys are interested, I can take some side by side pictures...

why not just put back the original bumper and make your LC look more civilian? maybe add on some bigger wheels so it is more suited for the city driving? that way maybe the most cost effective. well i am late with my comment since you have already made your decision.

then again, with the 4R, you will save much on fuel and environmentally friendly i suppose..

anyway, congrats on your new 4R. be safe. cheers!

The LC is better built than the 4Runner, have you seen testing phase for the 200? 5 years, 1500 engineers, and like a million miles in Australia, the U.S. SW and somewhere else that I cant remember right now. Theres a video of this on youtube. Just crawl underneath each and look at everything for a while......there is a noticeable difference between the two. There is alot that goes into making a "LandCruiser"........Toyota puts alot more effort into making sure the LC is the most capable and reliable 4X4 on the planet.
And how much engineering and testing went into the 4Runner/Pajero/GX460 platform? Do you really think it was significantly different from the LC?

What makes the LC "better built" than a 4Runner?

Also, for safety......fulltime 4WD and being heavier=safer......can't argue with physics
The 4th Gen 4Runner has fulltime 4WD and the 5th Gen 4Runner Limited has fulltime 4WD. The 4WD system used by the 4Runner consists of IFS front axle with open diff, solid rear axle with open diff, lockable limited slip Torsen center diff with two speed transfer case. Isn't that very similar to the LC 4WD system? While I certainly like my fulltime 4WD system, I don't see that as contributing much to safety. Fulltime 4WD helps me get where I'm going, but on snow-covered roads I've found that the most important thing was my snow tires. 4WD helps me go, but good tires help me turn and stop.

Also, here's a mod for the 200......ARB AirLocker for the rear (you could do the front too if ARB has released it)
You can get an ARB AirLocker for the 4Runner rear axle as well.

Do I like the LC? Yup. Would I rather have an LC than my 4Runner? Absolutely. Are there significant differences in safety between the two? Sorry, I don't see it.

By the way, saying your engineer is very vague. It's like me saying I am in sales so I know more about everything being sold.
Well, you know, you were the one bringing up the issue with this post:

I don't have to convince my wife. She minored in physicis and is a physician that has seen first hand what happens when there's a head on or a side impact. The heavier vehicle generally wins everytime. Check out websites that show head on collisions of smaller vs bigger cars.

Which I replied with:

I'm an engineer. I've done two years of physics.
Since that isn't enough detail for you, my degrees are:

BS Civil Engineering
ME Geotechnical Engineering
MS Computer-Aided Civil Engineering

Both the 4Runner and LC are safe vehicles.

After a personal hiatus, I come back to this thread???

wow, I was not expecting this!
