So I have a '82 fj60 that has had manifold and carb issues since I purchased it. I have pulled the Holly carb off and installed a Weber 2 barrel, pulled off the manifold to find a huge crack in the intake and purchased a used one. I installed the new manifold using a reflex gasket and put the weber back on. I'm still having problems overheating. My new thought is to do a whole engine swap. I would like to get more mpg and use my 60 as a daily driver, city and hwy. I was looking at the 3F-EFI from Cruiserparts. I just wanted some opinions or experiences for this swap. How hard of a job is it and what results am I to expect?

It's a great swap but you're not likely to see a substantial mileage increase unless you're 2F is in poor condition. There's a ton of posts on this already if you do a search.

The best way to do this is to find a good donor FJ62 so that you have every major and minor part needed. I've not looked at what Cruiseparts offers but after having done this swap I don't see how a vendor can offer a truly complete kit.

I would second that finding a full donor 62 would be the way to go. There will be lots of little peripheral bits you will need. Additionally Cruiserparts has a somewhat spotty reputation (you can search in the chat section if you are interested). You'll notice from Godwin's sig. line that he has a truck just like you are proposing.

A slightly different approach would be to add the 3FE engine control and top end (head, manifolds, etc.) to the 2F bottom end, providing yours is in decent shape. Most refer to this as a 2FE, I have one in my 62 (link in my sig. line) and the are becoming more common.

I will third the full donor for misc. parts.

Are you against a V8 swap?

I forth the full doner and suggest sticking with an FJ62. I'm in the middle of an FJ80 3FE swap and while the engine bolts in the rest is a lot of sorting out wires and mounting things that were designed for an 80 series fender well.

20 more ft-lb of torque and 20 more HP go along with FI simplicity.

I think you will find a WAY better deal even if you buy a used engine and all the parts you can from a not so local mudder than you will get from Cruiserparts.

Make sure you get everything that attaches to the engine by way of vacuum line. Make sure the PS and AC hoses come with it too. You need the 62 accel pedal and cable. You will need to drill out the fly wheel holes a bit. Search 3fe swap and my thread will come up. Much of my hassles have come from the 80-ness of my 3FE but some apply to a 62 as well.

One thing you can gleen from my swap is how bad you want to go with a non-native engine. I had to splice into wiring which you will need to do if you deviate from the 62.

I like this swap, it's smog legal in CA and keeps the land cruiser all land cruiser.

Maybe or maybe not. The donor rig I used was an '88 FJ62 and I did not have to drill the flywheel to mount it.

Cool, yet one more reason to stick with a 62.

I'm not just not that experienced and looking for an easy solution.

If you can find a running truck with a bad trans you'd probably get it for less than the Cruiser parts price and you'd have the exhaust, cats, o2 sensors... lots of other parts.

ust 2 Magnaflow cats was a little over 300 bucks, O2 sensors aren't cheap, add muffler, O2 bungs all the fabrication, and you can spend a grand just on the exhaust.

Ya, def remember having problems with Cruiser parts, just hard to find something close to Milwaukee.

Cruisers are rare in the midwest for sure. We just moved back to Cali from IL. However, you might luck out finding a rust bucket that runs Ok.
