Curious as to what the " lucky" folks who have the turbo diesel are getting.

The only fuel efficient SUV in the Toyota lineup is a new 4Runner with 17 local/21 highway/18 combined. All the new 4Runners are 6cyl. Beats the Lexus GX by quite a bit as well. It gets something like 450 miles per tank.

Worth a consideration, especially here in California where gas is almost tipping $5 a gallon right now.

Fuel efficient, you're joking aren't you? Those figures are terrible.

^ x2

If I had wanted fuel efficiency, I would not ever have owned a Cruiser. I have been through my share with a 40, a couple of 60s, and a 100 prior to my 200. All of them were dependable, substantial vehicles. Which is why I love them.

Sam,
Any change you're running really hard tires or super high pressures? 19 is the BEST I have heard.

Actually considering a GL350 Diesel as the next rig for the wife, then I'll get the 2011 and sell the 1999.

Nope ... stock tires at OEM inflation pressures. My last tank, which was all in town driving here in Charlotte was 200 miles on 14.06 gal for an average of 14.2 MPG. My commute is horrible for fuel economy since it is only 4 miles one way. 200 miles in 15 days ....

Granted, 21 highway for the 4Runner is not by any means fuel efficient. It's just the best mileage for a Toyota SUV. (Real body on frame SUV, not a car based Highlander or Rav4)

synthetic make a difference

We're just hitting 30,000 so those free oil changes have come to an end.

I'm going to switch to Mobil One now that the engine is broken in as I've done with each LC we've owned.

Anyone see any improvements using synthetic?

I'm still trying to figure out Sam's magic bullet for getting 19mpg out of his 200.

BTW, when I tow my boat I get 6-7 mpg!

It may be my light foot , but I used the cruise control for most of that:D.

The 2013s came with synthetic as a factory fill and I believe the gear boxes are synth as well. In other rigs I have had, synthetic made more of a difference in the gearboxes than it did in the engine, from an MPG standpoint.

I'm thinking then that there might be an engine or software update thats allowing you to get 2-3 betting MPG than the rest of us on your 2013 vs to 2008-2011.

I will update my mpg after I go synthetic. I'll be waiting until 50K to change all the gear and transmission oils.

I'll keep posting here. I will see it go down significantly since most of my driving is now in town (and not open highway).

FWIW, I've gone a bit over 7,000 miles on my '13 and my average is 15mpg. Just for grins I re-set the mileage graphic on a long down grade and then re-set it again to save the image as soon as I needed to be back on the gas. It showed 37.1 mpg. Another time, on straight and level freeway, I re-set it just to see what actual freeway only driving might be and it registered 23.1mpg. All around mileage is surely better than I ever got on my 80 or 100. I'm running BFG AT 285/70s at 35psi all the way around.

And FWIW #2 I average about 22 in my Porsche, so the LC isn't all "that" bad :)

Everyone who's posted must be lying! I average 10.5 mpg city and 12.5 mpg hwy.

There are so many variables to mileage that you're going to get a range of numbers. Mine is a stock vehicle, no roof rack or extra drag, and mixed driving over a 30 mile RT commute. I don't have a lead foot, although everyone has their moments. I consistently get 16 mpg and record my mileage at every fill up. I've done this for years...since I bought my LC in 2009. My wife's Expedition gets a consistent 14 mpg. Neither are great at fuel economy. Does anyone really buy a large SUV for its fuel economy?

Well said. I am surprised I am getting mileage as "good" as I am given my 4 mile one way commute.

Below is a shot of my mileage history (taken this morning) according to the truck's on board system. It should be noted that my reported mileage is hand calculated and varies by 0.1 - 0.2 mpg on each fill-up (not bad if you ask me).

16.5

I have about 4,000 miles on my new 2013 and with mixed driving I am getting 16.5. Not bad better than expected, my 80 gets closer to 14.0. Overall great ride, well worth the extra $ at the pump over any vehicle in its class.

After 3,000 miles on my 2013 LC200 I'm averaging 16.5 mpg mixed driving, mostly local roads.

I have the BFG AT 285/70-17's on TRD wheels and the recommended tire pressure from Toyota is 45psi front and rear. I am surprised to see you running 35 psi! Did you choose this pressure based on some specific info you received? BTW, recommended pressure for the stock 285/60-18 tires is 33 psi front and rear.

I'll bet your gas mileage would improve if you increased your tire pressure ;-)

Sorry, forgot to say that I have the 5.7L V8 gasoline engine (3UR-FE).

UPDATE:

I just completed a long trip from NY to Vermont and Back. I feathered the throttle. 58mph avg. I really want to see how good I could do.
Over 400 miles I got 17.6 mpg. That's the absolute best I can squeeze out of her. Granted the ride is far from flat but I am in awe of those that can manage 20MPG. I would really like to compare variables:
-Running reg gas, (every 10th tank I run Shell 93)
-Brand new Michelin LTX M/S 2 275-65-18
-Conventional Oil
-Bilstein Shocks
-Ski rack with 4 pairs of skis
-Wife and 2 whining kids
-200 lbs of cargo
-use cruise control only on flat sections and then manually throttle up hills so the trucks doesn't try to maintain speed up hills and downshift 2 gears.

All I can say to those getting 20+mpg is all your driving must be down hill. :-)

Changing over to 0W-20 Mobil One today and taking another trip this weekend (no ski rack) Perhaps something will change
