Thinking about selling the 80 and stealing the wife's 2015 4Rnr

True, all true. And the 4RNR will never, ever, leave you stranded with your kids while on a trip. They just go and go....

Yeah, if I had a 4RNR I'd just cancel our Triple A

Since everyone is jumping on . .:) love ya bro, no hard feelings - nothin against gingers, neither!!

:)

The 80/450 has a SFA, which preferable for the trail, but that's where it ends.

I disagree so far on my LX - - IFS with many lifts (OME, Bilstein, Swayaway/Radflo), is a bouncy mess vs the luxury of the SFA with coils. I prefer the lifted LX on the road vs the 4 different 4Runners and a Tundra I have had lifted. My 4th Gen with OME was a bear on the road - very tiring to drive. Never driven a "fancy" reservoir'd high end ICON or anything, though. I need to drive the LX a lot more to say all this with a definite opinion. But so far, the LX has been amazing on the road, even with the 4" lift.

4RNR is narrower and has a more advantageous wheel base and can find lines that an 80/450 is simply too far for. Has a rear locker for those who don't believe in traction control. Has traction control for those who realize 4 left feet controlling the brakes will always do a better job than 1.

LX is 72 inches wide; 5th Gen 4runner is 75.8" wide

LX turning radius is 21'; 5th Gen 4runner is 19'

80s look big, but handle well, turn tight and feel much smaller - feels as small as my 1st Gen 4Runner only not leaf sprung

And has never lost a wheel on the highway . . (oh gawd I am now "due" after saying something).

Twice! Operator error dont count

Damnitall! I was going to let this be.

1st off, I like an 80 just fine. I drove one for a few weeks once-maybe you all remember that time. I was actually actively shopping 80/450s when I bought Jolene(470).
1A- I'm not opposed to old stuff that doesn't wheel as well: Exhibit A-The Jalopy.
2nd-the 4RNR referenced above was exactly 14 years older than the '15 being discussed in this thread, and that puts it just a wee bit out of 80 vintage (old).
3rd- the wheel that was lost was not a 4RNR wheel. It may or may not have been from an 80.
4th- mods blow the debate wide open and leave too many variables to even really have a discussion.
5th- individuals may prefer a well modded SFA on the road to an overly sprung modification on IFS, but there's a reason every OEM has gone IFS (Wrangler and G-wagon excepting).
6th-my original points still stand.
An (unmodedded) '15 4RNR will walk away from an (unmodded) 80 on the trail.
It will easily pull away on the highway.
It will go further on each and every gallon of petrol it burns.
And some other stuff I wrote that I don't wanna go back and read.
7th- I need to spend more time on T4R.com

And the 80 didnt loose a wheel, it was part of a test to see how far it will drive on the rear rotor, as they are "unbreakable"

New g wag has ifs and rear 5 link and flexes better than any previous g wag.

I say get an ifs LC, 100 or 200, and have the best of both worlds. (Flame suit on).

I don't have a dog in this fight but if I did it would at least be part of an 80 :)

I stand by my insistence on a 77 :grinpimp:

I love the 77 body but have a coil spring fetish. Beautiful truck Sam.
I’ll have to get a flex pic ... the Terrain Tamer suspension on this truck rides really well
