Thinking about doing Strawberry Pass Solo

I'm going to be up in Tahoe this weekend (7/4-7/6) and I'm thinking about doing Strawberry Pass. Only thing is, I"ll be the only vehicle and my experience is, hmmm, well, limited. Would it be pretty crazy to do it without another vehicle?

Have not done this one myself. Here is a "rating" of sorts, cant speak for the reliability of it.

I might tackle it if I were you but but am apparently a bit of a risk taker because I did do the slickrock trail solo recently during the weekend of the rubithon (and still managed to bump into a lx450 ih8mudder on that trail who also was not on the con with everyone else, What are the odds?).

The pinch rock obstacle does not have a bypass anymore and a small section on the north side could be tricky.

The last time we ran it the winch came out 3 times.

Yes, definitely not advising against a buddy. Even if your buddy doesnt have the spare parts, tools, mechanical ability, spotting, extraction/rescue skills, etc he can still at least strap/tug you out of a bad spot or in a worse case scenario save you from a very long walk.

X3 on the not going solo!
You never know what weird things that CAN and ultimately WILL happen on the trail. Ask me how I know!
The trail is pretty tame till you hit the peak from the 88 side, then it gets a lil exciting...the pinch rock (as mentioned) will require some fancy spotting if wheelin anything bigger than a 40. Its TIGHT! we spent a better part of an hour trying to get an 80 and a 100 through there last time. Then you get into the boulder gardens after that.

Cool, thanks for the heads up guys. I don't have a winch so I don't think I'll try it but I'll probably check out the south half up to the pass from 88. I can always wait until someone organizes a trip up there.

Winch, tree saver, snatch block, hi-lift, chain, air tools. For an easy trail we sure made it tough.
The crowning moment was getting spressmons 100 through the pinch rock. That took some Roman engineering.

Another shot of the rig we used, the ARB snatch block was very handy we used it twice in tis spot.

We jacked the rig up then used the ARB snatch block and Dylan's Winch to drag the rock out from under the rig. I forgot to list the tire mate in the post above.

We used more recovery gear and techniques that day than any other trip I have ever been on.

It was a beautiful day in a great spot. We were all laughing and joking the whole time.

The worst day on the trail is better than the best day at work.

Hi All:

Sounds like a fun day run trail!

I would not not run it alone unless in a built rig. Reality says that one should not ever run a hard trail alone.
