Im thinking about buying a 86 BJ73 3B diesel.

What are some things I should look for

I have read that the 3B is not fast by no means, but what kind of
cruising speeds can you achieve.

Rust and low compression.Watch it start dead cold .

100-110kph ,maybe a little more with no headwind on the flat. And be prepare to down change 1 or 2 gears on hills

Go for BJ74, tubro 125hp or HZJ 74, 130hp and can add tubro later.

Thanks alot roscoFJ73 and BobBJ74 for the info

I would like to have a turbo diesel landcruiser the extra power would be great. They are hard to come by.

This BJ73 i am looking at has around 30,000 Km. Looks to be in good condition. Does have some rusty spots.

Can an adult fit comfortably in the back seat?

I was very comfortable in the back of my 73 series, but Im not sure if the 70 was the same.
What country are you in?
On the the 73 series I think the Japanese models had less legroom, again, not sure about the 70 but Im sure the others will know;)

Not sure about a BJ73 but on the BJ71 the rear seats are only seats in "theory":D
A "Munchkin" from the "Wizard of Oz" was the model passenger that the Toyota engineer's used to design those seats.

Thanks again everyone for the info

I live in Georgia USA,

I believe this land cruiser was imported from Japan.

Well if Munchkins can only ride in the back,
That means no adults :p

As the saying goes.....if you don't post photos the Cruiser really doesn't exist.:D

i suspect i know the cruiser you are looking at and it is a Japan import. NO leg room in the back.
you will need a windshield frame.
the 70, 73, 74 JDM versions have no rear legroom.

good luck in the search.

Is it soft top?

nah a silver 73 hard top in Texas ... i suspect.

My mistake ,for some reason I thought it was a BJ70.

There must be a big difference between an aussie model and a JDM as far as legroom goes. Im a little over 6.2 and I had plenty of room in mine.

the JDM version, you have about 2" clearence between the back seat front edge and the front seat back.

probably good for baby seats and dogs.

"You will need a windshield frame" ..... unfortunately that is just one of many issues with this particular Cruiser.

But they have come down in price a lot. They use to be nearly a $1000 ,now you can get them in oz for $650

Unfortunately "cheap in OZ" does not translate into "cheap in the U.S." :)

Thanks everyone for the info and help

Turns out this cruiser has way to much rust for me.

Still on the look out for a BJ73 or BJ74
