Yes, it's true. I have severe 40 envy right now. Not sure what to do. I can get my hands on a very good 81 FJ40 for what I think I could sell my truck for.

So, I am here at work on this rainy Friday struggling with the decision and I figured I would try to compile a list of things you can't do in a 40!

Move your apt. is the first thing that comes to mind.
Sleeping in the back
Hauling the dogs around

How about it? what else?

I say, don't sell your 60 and buy the 40. Get the best of both worlds. As soon as I get a real job (grad school keeps you well belowe the poverty line) , I am going to buy a 40.

I definately like the ability to haul things easier.

It's a little more comfy, for most people, on long road trips.

I can't count how many times I have slept in the back of the 60 a sprawled out and coasy.

Don't give up that sweet 62. Just get a 40 to go along with it, then your dog will be happy like mine. She loves both. Here she is from last summer having a doggy mental breakdown. Both trucks are ready to go, so she can't decide which one to get in.

I've had my 40 for about 6 years and finnally got tired of being cramped and having no room for stuff other than my dogs. So I bought a 87' 60 I'm trying to get on the road. Told the wife that I would sell the 40 after I got the 60 to a reliable point. She now dosen't want me to sell the 40. Says she like it for the summer with the top off. I just might get to keep both.:grinpimp:

I saw your 1st post picture and thought, I used to get all my stuff in/on my 40. Sh8t now it wouuld take a big moving van, damn I miss the single simple days sometimes.

i personally love 40s and had one for a while in highschool. that said, for travelling and actiivities [snowboarding, surfing, diving, etc] the 60 shows its strengths in terms of carrying stuff while being comfortable for long drives.

if i ever get my own place and a garage, i'll have both though. given a choice of just one, it's the 60 for my applications. ymmv

There ARE a lot of things that the 40 just isn't practical for.

I think for me that is what is so wonderful about it.........There
is nothing like the topless summers !!!!!

If we could only afford one vehicle in the world, I hate to admit
this, but it woulld likely be the minivan my wife drives.
Low mileage, low maintenance, and high gas mileage. Plus with
my family of five it has more than enough space for everyone.

Thank God I have not been forced into that ! Life without at
least one Cruiser is something I hope to never experience again.

i forgot to mention its not my DD and i am paranoid about rust so it never sees the road if there is salt down...

long trips... that is a good point but at this point with the gas prices the way they are, we just take the subaru.

You've just answered your own question.

SELL THE SUBARU -- BUY THE 40!

The 60's longer wheel base makes driving more comfy.
As you get older (like I am) just the thought of long drives in the shorter wheel base makes my kndneys ache.

Plus, I put 3 point seat belts in the back so the family is safe and secure!

if you're thinking of selling that beauty for a 40 series you're completly crazy!!!.
1. that time and money inverted on the 62.
2. your 62 it's already builted.
3. it's so much confortable than the 40.

and i can keep doing the list for about a day about the pros and the cons.

so don't sell the 62 and buy the 40 as everybody says:grinpimp:

You can't put a queen size air mattress in the back of a 40!! That alone is good enough reason to keep the 60 in my book.

only thing I can think of is moving the family around

4 people in a 40 sucks..

Sleeping in a 40 sucks. My effen back is still out, 3 years later! no way for a guy my size (grown man xxl) to get comfortable in there!

a 60 will swallow a full size refrigerator and save you the $50 dollar delivery fee
