So the reason to keep the 60 is so you can drive like an idiot???

OKay..

Just having some fun with the comparisons

Want small but comfy? Buy a 70...

I've seen 40's, 60's, and 80's through the UREs, the trails here are used to full-size trucks, Heeps, and SUVs so I don't have the tight space issue. But, the shorter wheelbase of the 40 prevails over some of the stuff here. While the wagons will climb over it with little problems, there is alot of metal grinding with poor breakover/approach/departure angles.

Rambling over, buy the 40 and keep the 60, or sell the 60 and import a 70. Just be happy you donm't drive a Heep.

Well, your partner (easy cowboys) can't put their feet up on the ceiling for maximum leverage. How do I know? You'd have to ask my wife:censor:

Another reason why the 60 is better for amorous expeditions.

Good game!

cant fit many dead bodies in the back of my 40. Even if I stack them right I can only fit about three (depending on size) without causing blind spots..

i think one of your issues that has been brought up is the tightenss of the New England trails. if you put a bit more armor on your wagon it would seem smaller. like rear quarter protection that extend up some to protect the sides too.
I use my fender bars a bunch on the trail as well. lets me get the nose through which in essence makes the rear end that much shorter. the new rack will help act as a roof slider on the off camber stuff. would seem a shame to sell it now that you have it set up.
I miss my fj40 sometimes, but also consider the wagons limitaitons keep you from over extending yourself on the trail while a fj40 will get you on that much more difficult terrain the chance of braekage is that much higher. if you are planning on it becoming a trailor queen then it won't be an issue. but with a fj40 you rock crawl you really need a driveway. much more so than a fj62 needs one. you will be loosing more than just the mirrors if you park it on the street.
i don't want to steer you from swapping to the fj40 just wanted to give you some food for thought.

Good thread!! I am looking forward to the day my 60 is running, so I can take the boys with me!!

When they get old enough, we'll take both on the trails and use the 60 as the supply hauler.

so tempting:

BUT, i think maybe what i need to do is get the d side longfield and 30 spline inner in there myself... (as thepass side is done already) take some time and really get to know the truck better then sit on it.

i bugged KLF for two years about buying this truck for a reason. i love it.

must
resist
40
envy...

seriously, i think there is a reason i have not posted it for sale yet even though i have all the pics taken...

I've found that if you draw and quarter them you can squeeze in 4-5
But of course, you can still fit a lot more in a 60/62

Just remember that you'll have to keep it garaged for 5 months of the year, and have the fortitude to keep it in there when the little voice inside your head is trying to get you to take it out to play in the snow. I just brought home a 1973 Alfa and am struggling against the temptation just to drive around the neighborhood a few times, so I know what I'm talking about.

bill, i am going to drive the wagon. right now i keep the wagon off the road when there is salt which is why i was going to get the 40.

now, i am diving in deep and going to drive the FJ62 a lot. just wash the salt off regularly and use it.

Peter both trucks are nice but i think you will be able to enjoy Clifford a bit moreesp. with all the work yo have already done to it. now if you were ookin got add the fj49 to your stable then I would say go for it. get rid of the subaru and DD clifford. if you ever need to go long distance take the significant otters vehicle. thats what I do:)

man I need to read my posts before I post them. if you are guna DD Clifford which I think is highly advisable and satisfing, a buddy of mine out on Block Island has a cool store bought marina and aircraft undercoating (oil) system that you spray on by an attachment to your air compressor. I'll get the info on it.
buy the fj40 sell the sabaru!!!!

Excellent plan! It's a shame to stable Clifford just when the weather gets nasty. I drive my FJ62 all winter long. The worse the weather gets the more it shines. Driving it around in a blizzard when no one else dares go on the road is great.

now you have me thinking... with cash to spare as well... the only thing is the 40 would have to stay on the street and you are right, in my neighborhod it would not look pretty for long.

You could park the 40 in my garage for the winter, I promise I won't touch it! My 40 could use the company! (is that the 40 that was at Northfield last spring?)

Move!!!
or rent a parking spot from Bill McCabe, or some other sort of private parking area close by. :)
you could keep the fj40 at my house:)

It'd be quite a trick to fit it in here. With the new one I've now got 4, so it's a full time job shuffling vehicles around in my driveway just to get at the one I need.

Peter - before you finally decide to take Clifford out in the salt, maybe I should park my rusting red hulk next to it, kind of a "ghost of Christmas future" thing. Might give you pause.
