I would like to begin to generate a digital catalog for out community of printable parts specifically for 60's.

Let's discuss ideas and hopefully get somethings modeled and printed.

This can be a repository for all our parts.

I think we can definitely model knobs, switches and maybe window handles.
Any interest?

I am currently working on a spacer for the rear view mirror. I moved my mirror to the windshield and need a spacer to be able to use the factory cap to make things look clean.

bumpers

heater control plastic trim

How big of printers do you have access to? Fender flares would be nice since nobody makes them anymore.

What software do you use for designing your model?

How rigid do you want it? A simple strap of 14ga sheet steel just a few inches long would be plenty strong to keep the mirror in place without wobbling. Or if it does wobble at all (not sure how far from the factory mount you plan on putting the mirror), bend it just a little less than needed to clear the windshield and put a couple rubber feet on the "back" side that'll be always pressed against the glass with light pressure.

I would love to see 62 series dash plastic done up, reproduced in aluminum and then anodized to a color somewhat close to the charcoal of the original plastic.

Can the same CAD files used for a 3D printer be used in a CNC system?

Edit: I see Jason beat me to it.

Torque. And some horsepower, too...

The media says these things are magic, right???

Can't some of those things print metals?

I'm not sure. I would be surprised if there weren't ones that could print machinable alloys. But then again if you're doing a 3D print in the first place, machining afterwards might not be necessary.

I was thinking aluminum reproduction dash surrounds similar to what Rocky Mountain Dashes made for several variations of Mopars until a few years ago. Not really concerned about being able to use aftermarket gauges or relocate the factory ones. Just want a good stout replacement for my surrounds before they completely disintegrate.

Printing metal is not easy!!

The makerbot machine are desktop sized and use different plastics (melted by the tip of the machine) to create parts. Lookup MakerBot on the web, you'll see what it can do.

Yes, you can 3d print titanium, stainless, aluminum and some exotic metals. But it would cost you about the same price if not more than CNC maching. I don't know about the maker box but most 3d printer except STL files which are exported from SolidWorks, Pro-E and other CAD software. If any of you want some custom parts or replicate of any Toyota part let me know and I'll try to get it done for you. I design and made these on a my 3d printer.

That could be a really sweet tool for making small trim pieces as people have suggested.
How strong is the plastic? What kind of plastic is it(can you use different kinds)?

I could use some of the interior door handle plastic trim since I have idiot friends...

also the switch blanks might be good for others along with the air vent pieces that open and close if that's small enough

Switch blank could be awesome, and if the CAD are provided I could make some custom ones!
