There is an eBay auction for a 100 series that has 508k miles on it.

While I'm sure this isn't the highest mileage one on the forum - This goes to show everyone looking for that low mileage cream puff that these beasts can run forever.

Sure the transmission is shot but come on. 508k miles of shifting a 6k lb truck may cause wear over time.

Anyway - love the forum and all the people up here that make it great.

Have a good weekend and let the miles rack up! :steer:

That is exactly my truck with just 350k more miles.
That's not too far from me, actually the town I bought my LX from. I just messaged him to see if we can work out a deal.
I would be interested just for fun in what has been done to the truck in 508k miles. If you do buy it, it would be great to document a compression test and check the valve clearances.

I plugged the VIN in on the Toyota owners site. It only gave records back to 335k.

I'll bite. What for? Parts? Putting another tranny in and driving?

Depending on actual engine condition, either for parts/parting out or to put a rebuilt transmission in and have something that is more practical to drive to work than my lifted LX with 33" tires.

I just spoke with the owner of the truck on the phone. We weren't able to come to terms outside of eBay, but he did agree to my price if he doesn't hit his reserve price on the auction. The guy was very passionate about the truck and reiterated a few times he would prefer a lower price than he wanted in order to see it go to someone who would repair and drive it instead of someone who intended to part it out.

Looks like you will have an interesting 100.
What do you know about the Timing Belt (s) ????

I didn't ask about the mileage when it was last changed. He said he has service records and everything is up to date. He did mention replacing the coil packs, a few at 300k and the rest at 400k. Really, as long as it starts and runs well I'm not concerned with the mileage of the timing belt, as long as I know about when it was done. He stated it needs new tires soon, I have a set of the Michelin LTX with ~500 miles on them that I pulled from my LX470 when I bought it.

It wouldn't be realistic to look at a damaged truck with 500k miles on it without expecting it to need some basic maintenance such as the TB/WP, possibly shocks, bushings, tires etc.

I hope someone here gets it and makes it into something nice! It looks completely rust free which is a great bonus.

What exactly was so different about the transmission on the 2000 year models that made it less reliable?

500k miles on the original trans is no joke and by no means "unreliable", probably still one of the toughest on the market, but just curious because I've seen that posted more than once on here. Unreliable is when you have to change the trans every 30k miles like on some of the older V6 Hondas and Acuras.

That thing is cleannnnnnnnnnn. Good luck. Hope to see it around Irmo soon.

That seems to be the golden question.

"2000 model year transmission issues" seems to be thrown around wildly by non 2000 owners. 99% of the 2000 year owners will tell you they've never had an issue.

I don't know the specifics but I believe it was some faulty internal part which affected a very small percentage of 2000 transmissions. It seems as though if a transmissions has this faulty part it will be known in less than 100k miles in most cases. People have talked about tracking down the specific VIN range however I do not believe this has been completed as of now.

If any off this information is inaccurate or missing something please comment.

Yeah, those 2000's are known for their transmission issues...

Toyota: Land Cruiser

I was kidding. Looking through the service history, this one did have a "transmission flush with additive" at 440k. I surely would've waived the additive and not so sure I'd even do a flush with that many miles.

When I talk to people that don't know much about these trucks and how I'm not crazy for trading a 2 yr old Subaru for a 13 year old LC, I tell them the LC is the only vehicle I have seen were people are selling with 300K miles and still usable as a daily driver. This one blows my mind.
