Have a 92 3fe that leaks coolant while warming up. I'm not sure where the leak comes from but it seems to be under the thermostat housing or near the water pump. I replaced the thermostat and gaskets but now the housing won't seal? Any ideas?

Welcome to Mud :flipoff2: (Mud salute). Did you use OEM parts, new square cut gasket, any material stuck on the sealing surfaces of the housing??

Thanks for the salute! I did use new OEM parts and the fel-pro square cut gasket was the only one I could find. Is it possible that the thermostat didn't line up or seat properly in the housing? When I squeeze the upper hose pressure and bubbles leak out (not sure if it's on top of or bottom of gasket. Should I try RTV? I wouldnt think I'd need it with a new gasket.

I would not use any other gasket except the Toyota square cut gasket/O-ring, you should be able to order that from the Toyota parts counter. RTV would not be needed if you have the correct gasket IMO. You are referring to leaks/bubbles from the T-stat housing, correct?

Yes, that is correct, bubbles are coming from the T Housing. On my way to first team Toyota in Chesapeake va. I'll let you know what the results are. Thanks for the quick feed back. This place has been great for my FJ!

Do they have that gasket/O-ring in stock?

since you have to go in , just double checking if you put the O ring on top of the T stat or your be going in again when theres no heat/ wont warm up :whoops: been there ,done that

Those paper gaskets are F'ing useless - mine absorbed coolant, got soft and caused the bolts to loose tension and then let go while on the dyno.

OEM all the way.

X2 on useless gasket! Same thing... turned to mush. This has been a blessing in disguise, though. The T housing was actually cracked and the base (where it mounts to the head) didn't have a gasket. So I have all the parts on order and hopefully this will solve my coolant leak during warm up idle!

New issues...I went against the old advice "never stick your hands where you wouldn't stick your face" and felt the inside of the head. I'm worried about the corrosion in there. Anyone know how far down you should be able to stick your fingers?

This is where I stuck my finger and it feels jagged and i can go straight down

Also should that hole on the water pump have a bolt? I know she's a train-wreck…

So I recently replaced my T Stat with some parts from autozone, From what I've read the foam gasket I bought it junk. Anyway after doing the install and replacement I drove the car about 4 miles and then parked it in my garage with no leak. The next morning I came out and there was a lake of coolant on the floor. I figured that it had been the hose that runs off the back of the T Stat housing in a U shape towards the drivers side. Replaced it with some hose I got at Napa (Not oem, just a hose I cut to fit) and that didnt solve the problem. Then last night I was looking around for the leak after adding some coolant and it looks like it coming from a area with two clamps towards the bottom of the engine. Any help I can get would be awesome. Thanks you guys and I'll try to get some photos
