I am fed up with my Warn xd9000 winch. It has broken on me twice now. I have it mounted laying flat which is the only way it works with my arb bumper and Warn says that, that is the reason why it is breaking. I sent it back to Warn and they just said there was a bunch of water and mud in it clogging the gears up. Basically what happens everytime is it locks up when not under load when I am just reeling in extra cable. What should I do? I use the winch like once every two weeks so maybe I am overheating it. I can't figure anything out. Should I get another winch or keep sending it back? It costs about 100 bucks everytime I send it back.

I think you answered your own question. Keep it clean and you shouldn't have these problems. That winch is not water-proof. Mud, dirt, and water will definitely give you problems. Do you periodically clean your winch?

Go hydraulic..... They may be slower but..... They are WATERPROOF.....

Sorry about that...I read your post way too fast and focused on the "overheating" part...

I do clean it. That isn't the problem. Because I have had this on there when being totally dry since the cleaning and it still breaks. Warn says that it is mounted wrong but that is the only way so as long as I have it like that they won't fix it for free.

Have you taken it apart and cleaned and lubed it or have you just sprayed it off with a hose?

can you post a couple of photos of the mounting?

He has an XD9000I. not an xd9000. The one he has is the one with a built in solenoid and stuff. Instead of being mounted upright, it mounted horizontal.

Reviving an ole one....

I am in the process of mounting my xd9000i horizontal too. In my 60 arb. So is this going to cause wayy too many problems? The way I see it, if I sealed the edges better it might not have so many problems. What is it about this one that doesn't like being on its side?

Also for those who want to know, it does fit in the 60 arb bar. just clocked over.

Hi All:

I would move-up to a 10 or 12K electric winch; the 9K was really intended for heavy-duty use on a smaller vehicle.

Regards,

Alan

I too would suggest the 12K if its within your means..........

8274...

A 12k for a 60 series?

They are like 130 plus pounds. With Bullbar you add over 200lbs to the front. I already have a 1000 pound diesel..
