Possibly, but I think it just got dropped and shattered on the lobes. The cross section is mostly crystalline, so pretty brittle. Presumably from the hardening.

Well hell. That’s lovely.

I’ve got lots to do still so I only cried for an hour.

On deck......finish clearing out the engine bay, tape off all the stuff I’m
Not removing and hose it down with Lizard Skin sound deadening.

Thanks for the tech Cameron. I don’t understand most of what you said but I’m looking forward to the whoooppow

Delta and my machine shop said they are broken all the time during shipping. Seems like they’d pack them better, but who knows.

One of the best things about doing an engine swap if being able to get inside the engine bay and really do a deep clean.

One thing I wanted to do was actually make the 70 series OEM snorkel hooked up and working.

This requires a battery relocation, a couple of holes and the OEM air cleaner intake relocated to the passenger side of the housing

I’m prepping the engine bay for a couple of coats of Lizard Skin sound deadening spray. It will go on black and then I will paint it back white

Next step is to line everything left under the hood with tape and aluminum foil and start laying down Lizard Skin

Painting it back to white is A+

Got one good coat of Lizard Skin laid.

I sanded the inside of the hood. I laid a nice bead of seam seal on the rib a week ago. That was a source of some rattle

I bought the Lizard Skin kit with stir stick and sprayer.

Pretty easy.

I would like for it to be a bit warmer but it just going to take longer between coats to dry.

Very curious to find out how you like Lizard Skin when all is said and done. The V8 makes my FJ40 a very loud oven in the summer so I’ve been eyeing this product up for when it comes time to do the tub.

Yeah, the 55 and the 40 are similar beasts in that they are loud and hot.

All of this is discussed in my Warthog build thread but basiacally I’ve added Noico sound dampening on the entire truck and have a layer of a thinsulate material on top of that, covered with rubber mats.

The heat is way way down but I was still getting major noise through the firewall and windshield.

I can’t help but think this will be the ticket. My FJ60 is almost silent in the cab with the same drivetrain. It’s amazing the leap in “comfort” technology the 55 to 60 was.

I’m no fan of textured finishes but just the hand slap on metal test from before the coating to after the coating is very impressive.

This stuff soaks up paint though to cover it and all the small valleys. Plan on extra paint.

I am using Rustoleum Canvas White to somewhat match OEM Toyota Cygnus white after a basecoat of satin white.

I would use all Canvas but as fast as the first can soaked in I switched to the Satin for the first coat because I have a bunch of it.

Engine bay is painted. Of course there are tape spots that need touch up but overall I’m pleased with the product. I don’t know if I mentioned it but I actually bought the Lizard Skin sprayer. Made the job easy. Cleanup was a snap.

Took just under 2 gallons. I have a non cut tranny hump coming so I can cut the proper holes for the H55 and split case shifters. I have enough left to coat it good top and bottom.

Next up is the frame and axle

I lied on the next up being the frame and axle.

My friend @under_psi kindly brought me some more Canvas White and I laid more on the engine bay, hood and painted my inner grill back the correct color.

Then I spent a stupid amount of time cleaning up my intake manifold.

Then another stupid amount of time cleaning up the accessory brackets.
