I'd like to point out that the 1FZ-FE is poorly designed. I don't particularly care for the design of it. The plugs and wires take 30 minutes (with two step 6s) to change. The concept of having the plugs recessed in where you need an actual 16mm plug socket to remove them is ridiculous.

Let's be fair, though - the truck was originally delivered with a good spark plug wrench in the tool kit. It was the least of my issues with my spark plug job. A joy to use. Getting the old wires out of the wells - that was a pain. Some of them were stuck pretty good.

The recess is due to how close the cams are and the need to optimally position the spark. It's pretty common on modern inline engines. Easier to deal with on coil-on-plug engines because you have something solid to yank on rather than just a rubber boot.

Got two of these floods for the rear bumper. We'll see how they work! $18.99 on Amazon. Can't argue.

I was thinking about getting some of those (or kind of like it) to mount in the rear deflector so they can show light behind the truck with the gate closed, kind of like aux. back-up lights or F*** You lights on the road. I just don't think they would point down at the right angle. I don't want them to be "obvious".

IMHO, they are way to deep of a light for the rear deflector. I think I may put them in the front bumper even though they are floods...

Good to know. I'll keep looking. I need light in the back when I'm loading the wheelchair at night. If I could only turn on the back up lights while loading .......(I have to have the truck running when I lift the wheelchair on the lift because it is such a huge amp draw)
405 LB chair sticking out 3 ft behind the truck.

What about this? Mount it to the wind deflector. Center it up, drill a hole through the deflector to feed the wire through. Then feed the wire down through the opening at the top of the hatch and body. Feed it in to the headliner and down the D pillar.

Or you could do what @LandCruiserPhil did. Remove the wind deflector and use one of the holes in the hatch to mount.

Founds these holes from my repair of factory rack. The QuikSteel didn't hold up. I think it was user error as these were the first holes I did. I patched them with body trim clips and RTV for now.

Got the racked mounted up.

Made a pour spout for my Jerry cans.

We will be heading out Monday Dec 26th. Heading towards Green River, WY. Hitting some fishing on the 27th and swinging by the Land Cruiser Museum and Cruiser Outfitters on Tues or Wed. Have to be in Sacramento area (West of there, Clear Lake) on the 30th and 31st. Then heading north from there along the coast to Oregon. Then probably back down south a bit...

Heads up to @cruiserdan @cruiseroutfit @jcardona1 @Cruiserdrew @reevesci @baldilocks @retrofive and anyone else along that path. See some/all of you in the next week or so!

Stocked up with spares. (Except the battery tie downs. I just wanted new, shiny ones!)

Roof rack is mounted and ready for me to run the wiring from the lights. And mount clamps. And rear facing lights. And load up ice fishing gear. And Jerry cans. Sh!t I have a lot to do!

Keep the rubber side down and the sun at your back. I won't have time to play this time but I'm certainly willing to take time out if you have troubles and need a hand when you are in my area. There are plenty of 80 owners who are on Mud right here in the Sacramento and surrounding area too. If s*** really hits the fan, I have a trailer, a tow rig and a spare 94 ripe with parts that all work. Merry Christmas

No worries! We are going to take it easy and enjoy the journey. Weather looks fun in Wyoming/Utah/Colorado!

Weather could be interesting for sure! Hit me up if you need anything in or around SLC, UT. Depending on timing, I may even be able sneak up to the museum or Cruiser Outfitters when you roll through town. Be safe and have fun!

Yikes at the qwiksteel fail. Maybe I won't be doing that. I'm glad I held off on mine. It was too cold to mess around with bodywork by the time I was ready to do it. Meanwhile my Prinsu is sitting in a box in my basement collecting dust :(

Have a great trip, and fee free to call or stop by if you need anything in the Sacramento area. Post a pic if you manage to catch any fish in Clear Lake!

I think it was user error. Probably didn't get it pushed down in to it well enough. Or didn't get a proper blend/mix. The others are solid as a rock. Numerous guys have used it without any issues.

Will do! There will be all kinds of pics. I'm confident fish will be caught... I talked to him yesterday and they caught a handful of 8-9 pound large mouth. Water temp is good. Water is clear. He said the recent storms have mainly been south of Clear Lake.

I wish you well on your trip of a lifetime! Make many memories and have fun, and I wish you safety for all. Let me know if there is anything I can help with if needed, even though I am not directly on your route.

Good Luck and Merry Christmas!
