Finally got a little time today to work on the 40...started off by taking the carb off and replacing a worn out spring...then put a new seal from the carb to the mainfold. So I decided to replace the wire going to the electric choke.....when I got over to the coil I noticed some burnt wires.....And Now I am baffled....the wire going from the coil to the ignitiion key was burned thru the insulation and the wire going from the coil to the distributor was also burnt thru. Now I had the electric choke going into the coil and also had the tacometer going into the coil. Just tryin to figure out why the 2 wires were getting too hot. Should I have had the electric choke going somewhere else. Seems like there is always something.

Chuck what I would do first is eliminate the possibilities. New wire from coil to ign. This should have a fuse. Correct. Then run a seperate wire for the Choke and make sure it has a fuse also. Leave the tach disconnected. I don't think you need to worry about rpms yet. Use good wire. Don't let the smoke out.
