What's your opinion, what auto-tranny and transfer case should I get for small block chevy,
so it all makes sense and doesn't cost a lot?

Application: 92 Hilux Double-Cab, 35" tires (later maybe 37").

Best IMO is going to be a 700R4 and either a 208(only for cost) or adapt it to a 300 case. AA has the junk to do an adapter to 300 but will cost ya. Tranny is cheap to find and build, 208 same but hangs so dang low.

Thanks for your reply

Agree on the 700R4, but I'd definitely go STAK Monster box..

Well, the STAK box does look impresive.
I don't doubt my brother would be delighted to have either STAK or ATLAS box in his Hilux,
but they kinda go against the "low-cost" rule... :whoops:

205 is huge and heavy. Although the 700 come with a 205 for a short period of time, the pedestal and adapters are almost impossible to find. If you're going to buy adapters........... D300 is a much smaller and plenty strong enough. Just my .02

Don't you think the V8 swap violates a "low cost" rule in general? :D

Well, any swap costs - no doubt about that.
He wants more power, Hilux has relatively small engine bay, hence a V8.
From his research it seemed that small blocks are pretty good "bang for the buck".
He will do most of the work by himself, so assuming low cost of the junk it should not be that bad...

i have a 383 stroker motor backed with a th350 and a 205 case. works well if you don't drive freeway much, but i think i may switch to a 203 case soon.

Why are you going to go backwards and go to a 203? 205 is part-time along with front and rear are locked in 4x4.

i also have a 383 with th350 and 203 case. the 203 is not full time 4x4. the 203 is heavier . i make the conversions on the driveshafts. chev to yota. the combo works great and is probably the cheapest.

So chevy small block + toyota transmission and transfer case?
Or chevy small block + 700R4/TH350 + toyota transfer case?
