I was a GC specializing in guest houses and Inns. I also did a great many kitchens and baths , nice and cool inside 
I gravitated to drawing blue prints about 6 years into living there, a lot easier on the body and better money. I drew the plans and had a structural engineer review and stamp them, no architect required. It is actually pretty easy to make money in the Keys if you are motivated and work. Lots of folks with Jimmy Buffet Syndrome down there.
