i wish toyota'd just start making all their models available to the US as an option. i'm sure they'd sell enough of them to cover the cost of getting them to us. i'm sure 90% of the market would want the standard US models since most don't do anything with their vehicles other than drive it on the street - but the other 10% would be so much happier if they had the option of manual trannies, diesels, and all the other goodies that we drool over when you guys post your rigs.

If Toyota officially imported mutliple variations of non-US Land Cruisers, they would lose their shirts on them, because they'd have to support every vehicle sold in the US. That means selling a low-volume vehicle but having to stock parts for them at every dealer in the country, training all technicians, etc...

Toyota sold around 12K UZJ100s per year (peak); 10% of that is only 1,200 trucks. Say 10% of those ask for a 1HD-FTE turbo diesel. Toyota sells 120 Land Cruisers but now has to stock parts at thousands of dealerships, keep hundreds of thousands of dollars in inventory at their distribution center in Ontario, CA, and train thousands of technicians to work on an engine that they might never even get to see.

It's a great dream, one that most of us have had at one point or another (myself included), but it's still just a dream...

Toyota should've chose the GX model to sell here in the States then.

Don't know if any of you know this guy or have seen his videos, name's Andrew St. Pierre, expedition expert in South Africa. He normally drives G-wagons and Defenders, but this 100's his! I was pleased.

Just got it a week ago, stock 04 LX470. Virgin to the 100 series but loving it. I can't learn enough. Never been so impressed.

Yep Black. Swore I would not do black again (I've had two Excursions black), but ended up back. Almost did white. Nice ride yourself...and a manual...cool.

Here's mine, from the same trip above with DaveGonz, Arcteryx and Softride62!

Overseas Cruisers

Some pics of a few Cruisers I was lucky enough to be acquainted with while in North Africa (Niger and Algeria). Solidified my decision to purchase a UZJ100 once back in the States.

Exiled,

that rig would look very good with black wheels. Go real nice with all your black accents :)

Thnx, but I kinda like the plain pewter of the OEM steelies...I hate the green on my Cruiser, it's tough to photograph...
