GF and I took a trip to Blackwaterfalls State park to do some offroading and back country camping. Her first time driving on the trail and she had an awesome time. Truck is all scratched up from the wild grown bushes but it's a cruiser, it's meant to have the marks.

I'm using Quick Fists, got it on amazon for $10 a pair, held up in 100mph interstate travel. If you are worried about it falling off, just zip tie the shovel as well.

Very nice! I was up there a few weeks ago and the place was packed! Exploring around Blackwater Falls is on my short list. I spend most of my time in that area over around Seneca Rock and Dolly Sods.

We were there on Monday and were the only people on that trail, Canaan Loop road. Some parts are sketchy as hell, conditions have gotten worse over the years. Have you been through that road before?

I'm familiar with it, but I haven't ran it yet. I want to do what you did and camp along it with the family. I understand there are quite a few dispersed camping sites along it.
Good call going on a week day. I was there on a Sunday and the park was packed.
Like FxFormat mentioned, the rhododendrons are thick and grow well into the trail for the first few miles. I remember them being tight some years even on a dirt bike. Expect a large amount of pin striping if you do check it out.

Just hadn't taken any photos of her in a while, so some basic shots after a quick cleaning. I've owned this as long as I've owned any car, almost 5 years, and was recently thinking about selling and maybe getting a manual Xterra. But the 100 series is just too nice to part with. Had an 80 series for the 3 year prior to getting this one.
Rock solid on the trails. No noises or rattling at all. TBH though, most of my rig rattles. My 3rd row windows obscenely rattle and all my other misc gear and worn interior trims parts but nothing obvious from the carrier and I can clearly see it in my rear view mirror mounted solidly even when hitting large bumps and railroad crossings.
