Northern part of Blackwater State Forest in the FL Panhandle. @thebeedeegee we did about 30 miles off road. My father in law grew up around there and really knows the lay of the land. Big gravel pit playground, some water crossings (unbelievably dry out there). Stopped at a good spot referred to as "steel bridge". I am going to try and map out where we went from memory, but we went in not far from the intersection of hwys 4 & 87 outside of Munson. Also featured Pumpkin the little dog and Percy Sledge the hound who is a wild animal.

Drove up to undisclosed location near a dam in northern ca looking for a ohv park. Ended up NOT finding it (while thinking i did) and driving around the rolling hills/prairies. Got the idea that i wasnt suppost to be there when we were leaving and all the gates were locking us in/away from the road. Had to unbolt the hinges of a gate to get out (i re-attached after exiting).
Good thing i brought tools with me. Got to rub my sliders multiple times as well. For those who must he prepared for everything-- a good adjustable wrench and hammer, and bolt cutters for barbed wire fence/gate locks(only if you MUST get out right away)

While visiting a local state park found an unimproved fire road. Hardly 200 yards in I was stuck in about 10 inch deep mud.:poop:
With three kids in the truck, no cell coverage and pretty heavy downpour - the desperation started to set in. Then remembered that I have Chinese knock off traction boards with me.

Stuck them under rear wheels and locked the center diff and she pulled herself right out!
Had to literally dig out the boards afterwards and wished I had a way to carry them outside the truck. They were clogged with sloppy mud but they saved my day.

Didn't take any pics in situ, but took this one after we got on paved surface

I have those chinese knock off pads, paid $45 for the pair, the maxxtraxx are wayyyyyy too expensive for what they are. You can even use cut up milk crates to get yourself out.

I agree. I paid about $80 and have already used them a few times to save my ass.

nice you got your self out.

with kids of my own, and without traction boards....probably improvise with tree branches and clothes?

Yeah, I need to carry a shovel and an ax for these kind of situations. I have also installed a winch under my stock bumper but have been too lazy to put on the rope!

I haven't used the maxxtraxx brand, but I can say that the knock off boards from a vendor here I had got destroyed the very first time I used them. They got so broken up I didn't even bother digging them out of the mud hole- they're now part of the natural landscape for other trucks to grab on to. (They went in deep, not a damage risk). If the maxxtraxx don't do that, they're definitely worth more.

Be VERY careful with tree branches, especially if you can't see them inside the mud. We tried the same thing a few months ago which resulted in a brand new, one payment made '18 4Runner TRD, getting a branch lodged between his control arm and TRE. Tweaked the crap out of his suspension and we had to drive 5mph to the nearest town to tow him home.

I'd just make a point to avoid mud (if possible) unless you've got someone there to pull you out. Or a winch. Actually, that applies to all wheeling, not just mud.

If he was in a Land Cruiser, he would've smashed the branch to pieces instead

Hail storm rolled into Denver about 2AM last night. Parked under a tree earlier in the evening knowing some bad storms were coming in. Got about 2" of total hail. Looked like a snow storm by the end. Pretty big size hail, up to nickel diameter.

Cruiser survived just fine.... tree above the Cruiser, not so much.

Finally got a chance to get some air out of the tires and test out the new copilot.
