Are you running the electricity and wiring yourself?

Are you running the electricity and wiring yourself?

I will have the local electric co-op rum the primary and then will probably have to pay someone (due to codes) to set the panel and drop a light or an outlet so I can pass inspection, then I will take it from there. Gonna have to get on that stick to, got the front closed up this weekend and it is D A R K in there.

My folks came up yesterday and me and my pops spent the day getting the doors in... that is more work then you'd think, especially when you've never done it and the instructions suck and they leave out hardware.... Still have to get some nuts and bolts for the bracing and getting the springs mounted and tensioned.

Today we spent the day skinning the front. I wish I'da gotten the corners wrapped, but that should go pretty easy one day this week or next weekend. Then gonna get the soffit up and get the rest of the front trimmed in, then move around back and hit the lean-to with gussto to try and get that thing up so I can get this puppy put to bed.

I only got one good picture this weekend.

Getting close. Hope to whoop it in another weekend or 2.

Well we signed the paperwork on an apartment in Eagleville today. Come June 1st we will have a Rutherford County address. Sh!t is gettin' real around our house pretty quick, but baby girl should be good to go for school this fall. And let's face it, that's really all that matters these days.

And the Farm is only about 10 minutes away

And on a barn note, I stopped by after signing the papers and after all that crazy rain and wind last night, inside of the barn seemed nice and dry. Very pleased with that.

you can't beat life in a small town or rural setting....my choice any time. Internet access can be a challenge though. Not a fan of the rat-race/big city life-style.. Jobs drive location a lot though. Barn is looking good.

jynx , here's the contact for the contractor that I'm using .

I see y'all got the side wrapped up before the rain moved in Sunday. Looking good

Hey Jynx, Looking good man!
Any reason you went with the double doors rather than one big one?

@ukaviator after having a double door at home for the last 9 years, I loath them. Most large double doors are 16'-20' wide and while that is enough room to pull 2 cars in, it is essentially like two cars in a parking lot. There is usually barely enough room to open the doors in between (At least mine is, of course my garage will barely hold 2 cars so that may not be fair) Anyway, I went with a pair of 9' wide doors and have 3' between them so I can pull a car in each and still have plenty of room all the way around both of them.

Different stroked for different folks, but that was my logic. Also, in the case of the barn, the wall that the doors are in carry the roof and truss load so to clear span 16'-20' on that wall would likely have required a special beam (read $$) to carry those loads.

Looks like it is going to be a nice weekend. MTEMC came out and staked my pole line for me this week, so I have some trees to take down. They require 40' clear (20' from CL each side) and they came down the drive so I am hoping that I don't have to cut down too many trees. I kind of like the way the drive kinda hides itself, but dems da rules.

So the plan for this weekend is to pick up scrap wood, burn several gallons of diesel in the MF bush-hogging, burn a few gallons in the saw trimming trees and probably a tank or two thru the trimmer to tidy things up a bit. It has been several weeks and some of the fescue is over waist high out there.

I also am going to try to get the weather stripping up around the garage doors and get the springs installed and ready to be tensioned. Mamma says I am not allowed to do that, so gonna have to get someone to come out and put the tension on them.

You guys enjoy the weekend and be safe. I will make sure to get a few pics of the aftermath.

Got a little over an hour in on the tractor before my allergies got the better of me. The dang fescue is nearly 6' tall in places. Got a few acres clipped at least. Gonna hit again in the morning with a bandana or something to block the funk a little better.

And yes the fescue is as tall as the hood of the tractor.

Erin also got the drone up in the air for a flight around. She is working on getting the video up, when she does I will see if I can figure out how to imbed it.

Erin's First Drone video... Nothing special, but if your curious about the place it gives you a little insight. Next one should be better

Anybody know anybody in the area (Murfreesboro, Eagleville, Shelbyville, Chapel Hill) that does clearing? I checked out the staking for the electrical pole line and have decided that it is a little more than I need to take on. Would prefer someone with a chipping attachment to take the trees down to the ground. @FJCRAWLER you know anybody down your way that I could call. You are turning into my go-to on this kinda stuff, I hope you don't mind.

I used a guy out of Lewisburg when I built my garage. He did it all .

Worked my a$$ off this weekend. I spent several hours on the tractor grading around the barn. Had about 70 ton of rock delivered, 2 loads of inch and a half and a load of crusher. Spread the crusher around the front and spread the big stuff around two other sides.

This is the only picture I grabbed from the weekend.

I am meeting a guy on Tuesday to have the electric ROW cleared and to see about having some other areas cleared with one of those gigantic chippers on tracks.

Hope to be ready to have power brought in in a few weeks. We will be moving the next few weekends, but I need to steal a few hours to do more bush hogging too.

Once the move settles down we have got to get back on finishing the lean-to and getting the barn trimmed out and then see about getting some insulation on the walls.

Things are starting to come together, just have to survive the next few weeks.

Ordered house plans today. As soon as they come in we will be getting quotes for construction, which is all that is needed to finalize our financing.

Now the real fun starts!

Beautiful house buddy, hope it all goes smoothly.

Thanks Jason. I hope so too. I was hoping to get a breather, but Farm Credit offered us a rate that we'd be crazy to pass up so we had to kick it into high gear. We will likely be breaking ground in August.

Plans came today.

Worked on some markups this afternoon. Going to set up meetings with some contractors next week for pricing. Land clearing starts on Monday for electric and house. Need to pull the septic permit and sort out the water in the next few weeks.

Things be moving on.

Good time to go solar .

Well water . Hand pump optional .

Nothin like a good ole out house .

Off the grid .........priceless .

Met with Glen on Monday, and have a couple more calls to make to get a couple more quotes on the house.

Clearing for power started on Monday. Pleased with his progress so far.

With the house starting soon I'm gonna have him clear the house spot too.

I use a mask when mowing, nasonex and zyrtec work well against those allergy buggers
