I've just been checking out these vehicles lately and noticed the Turbo V6's from pre-07' are often times priced higher than the Turbo V8's from 07' onward?

Is this a collectors thing, are the HDJ's considered more reliable? What is the deal with this. You can even get V8 GXL's with factory lockers for cheaper than some of what the Workmate V6's are asking for?

Can't say why the pricing is different, as I live on the other side of the world and we get neither truck. But what I can tell you is the HDJ rigs come with a straight 6, not a v6. :)

Funny I was looking at this yesterday. They fluctuate in price every month but since the v8 cruiser came out the HDj Utes have always been more in price second hand. The mines department bought the v8 cruisers and weren’t getting the life out of the with frame rails breaking so they were buying back the 6 cylinder ones. Rv editions go for up to $40k with 400,000kms on them it’s just stupid pricing

Mines were buying back HDJ's? Wow, haha that is nuts. Explains why people want more for their HDJ's too, cheers.

The HDJ79 is a great truck go better off road with the same wheel track there cheaper to run with servicing and parts etc. The six is reliable and easy to fix on the side of the road compared to the 8 cylinder. It’s like most cars and trucks as the emissions laws get more stringent the more computers and crap they add to keep them on the road. Old school reliability is hard to beat but the modern VDJ79 is very comfortable and safe compared to old.

This is getting out of control

Ive never heard of HDJ79 in the mines, more like HZJ79. In any case, the large mines have a mandatory age retirement for mine vehicles these days. 10 years I think, so the HZJ79 being last sold in 07? here is past its use by date.

I agree the pricing is stupid. I could not find a hdj79r for less than 25k when i was looking at the 70s. The v8s are actually very reliable especially if a second fuel filter has been fitted. Aside from their wheel track i they are a very capable vehicle. There are many soloutions for fixing that wheel track now and not for the life of me am i gping to go and spend 40k on the turbo 6 when i can have a better far less kms vdj for 35k. Also, the v8s kick the turbo 6 arse with an exhaust and chip. Better gearbox too as 5th is on the main imput shaft. Later ones have the taller 5th hear as well and that box will bolt into the ones that didn't come from factory with the better box.

HDj were in the mines my mate had three of them and they trashed them all

That’s one clean ute but they would have traded that for mid to highly twenty’s
