Hi all,

I am in the market for a 70 series and I’ve seen a 2008 model with +\- 250k kms. It’s been online for a bit now with price reduced to 30k AUD (≈19.5k USD).

This would be my first 4x4 purchase and would be very much helped to get some insight in whether this is worth the money or not. Looking at different troopies the price on this one seems a bit low. What am I missing?

I’ve asked for pictures of rust, and the seller has sent me some. There’s obviously plenty of cosmetic flaws, and would it be logical to assume it was used for towing considering the custom mirrors?

The ad has the following features:
• Rego - 24/11/2025
• Brand New Battery -April 2025
• Rear wheels have offset to fix wheel track.
• rear seat folds down to make a single bed- custom made
• Dual battery set up
• Custom 2 1/2 inch exhaust
• serviced 6 monthly - mechanically sound
• comes with Roof rack fitted
• Awning
• After market mirrors
• Rare side door
• LED spotlights
• LED rear light
• KM - 253 531
• I drive throttle controller

I am planning on getting a custom setup that allows rear seats and a bed transformation, like one sold by KODH in Australia. Therefore I am not too worried about what’s in the back at the moment.

Any help is very much appreciated! Thanks

If you are importing into the United States then you need to look at older cruisers. 25 years and older and it’s considered a classic. Makes registration simpler.
I appreciate the thought, but I am in Australia so luckily won’t be looking into importing.

With regular 10k service intervals, what kind of odometer reading do you think is still OK for a 2008 model?

Hello,

Mileage is normal for a 78 Series of that age in your neck of the woods.

Make sure the service records are real. As you may know already, the rule is 5000 km or six months, whatever comes first.

The side door is not that rare. It is common in trucks used as ambulances, among other uses.

Check out rust, wheel bearings and oil leaks.

Check the dual battery setup, in order to make sure it is not a hack job.
