I like the nose styling better than the abortion of a Tundra redesign. Honestly I think it looks more like the 250 and 350 just a little more areodynamic.
I was pretty disappointed with my Tundra. My wifes cousin is disappointed with his too. I have known a few others with problems. My buddys 2013 Taco has a diff noise. Its a known problem they don't have a fix for. I've just lost faith in Toyota. They don't seem to make them like they used to. So its time to look other options that I wouldn't have considered before as I was a die hard Toyota fan.
Ford has used aluminum panels for years on trunks and hoods. They corrode out and the paint falls off once they get a scratch.
I'll be interested to see how this works out and the kind of power it produces. 30mpg out of a full sized truck is awesome if the power is decent.
Now this is the kind of information I was looking for. I was curious about this. I know that the clear coat on aluminum wheels scratches and the clearcoat starts to bubble.
I would think that looking at any old Rover would be
a good example of how aluminum would hold up.

Southern rock bouncing and rock crawling are two completely different beasts. Only similarity is they both involve 4wheel drive trucks. Seems as though he's bustedknuckle films driver of the year. As far as the spectator aspect goes I'm sure the general public dig the high horsepower crazy rolls aspect of rock bouncing more than crawling so if it was a spectator based vote that's probably why he got "Best driver".

I'll be curious how much that aluminum bodied Ford costs since new truck costs have skyrocketed over the last few years. It should get close to 30mpg as a 2WD and 6 cylinder.
There's a road test of the Ram 1500 with the 3.0 diesel in the March issue of Four Wheeler Magazine. They averaged 18 off road and got nearly 27 on a road loop. 240HP / 420 Ft Lbs. Towing capacity 6700 and payload 1020. They tested the top of the line Laramie and it priced out at $55K. Ouch!
There's also a Truck of the Year test of the Silverado, Tundra and Ram 2500. http://www.fourwheeler.com/vehicle-reviews/1402-2014-pickup-truck-of-the-year/ The Chevy won, but all three trucks had 70+ points and the spread was less than a point between them overall. The Toyota was cheapest at $41K, the Chevy was just over $50K and the Ram just under $50K.
I'm sure you could buy any of these trucks with fewer options for somewhat less as the base prices range from about $5K less for the Tundra to $7K less for the Chevy to $9K less for the Ram. Personally, I can't justify spending that much on a truck. I would have to be using it in a business and making money off of it to justify that much expense.
I just changed the oil and filter and air filter on My '97 Dodge 2500 at 134K. I get as high as 14MPG on the downhill run from camp back home unloaded and as low as 10 when I'm trailering my rig. Mostly I average just over 12. I can buy a lot of gas for the cost of a month payment on a new truck. I guess I'll be running it until one of us dies. For those of you making odds, I don't plan on driving it more than 5K a year and only use the plow on my own driveway. It doesn't have any rust through in the cab yet either.
PS: There's also an article in that Four Wheeler issue about a Cummins powered FJ60.

Last I checked mine still moves, it doesn't skip, pop & fart down the trail like some green wanna be buggy
You make a lot of good points Larry. It would be my daily driver. Just needs to tow about 7k. Gas mileage is a concern as well as reliability. Maybe the mid sized trucks would be better suited if the price is better. I've thought about getting a beater and fun sporty but I've always been a truck guy. Id rather have a nice truck and a beater for gas mileage.
