No reason to flame here....I can barely work a screwdriver! MUD isn't like other sites where people bash you for the sake of bashing.....unless you go into the Chit Chat section....there's a free for all.

Welcome Impreza!

Flip - you're awesome with a screwdriver! If you held onto trucks longer, you might have an opportunity to try some other tools. :grinpimp:

Yes, I just might have to. Perhaps you guys can help me install my replacement OEM running board. *Oh snap, flame suit on!!!*

Hmmm, interesting. Anyone up for some carpooling? :)

Welcome to Mud and YT. Two thing about the above comments. Remove the running boards and bring/wheel your rig at the spring meeting. :hhmm:

If I bring mine, I'll probably get asked to leave.

"Who are bleep are you? 80 with highway tires, running boards, and no lockers...TROLL!!!" *unamused*

Well it seems like you only have one running board. I am sure we can remove the other fairly pretty easy.

As for the tires. The stock trails are pretty easy. My first year at the fall gathering I had street tires on my Tacoma and I was fine. Worst case scenaro you take a strap or a winch line.

Actually, I have both boards on right now...it's just the driver's side is rusting...previous owner included a good condition one as part of the package. Damn you New England.

Back in the high school days, I use to wheel in a relatively stock XJ w/factory trak-lok and generic street tires. It was impressive for what it was so I'd imagine the 80 will be fine except I won't get into some of the tiny little places the XJ did.

even with no lockers highway tires the mighty 80's are unstoppable
great to have you aboard :D

LCCruiser, your first rant I pretty much disagree with everything you wrote and the second rant was just more of the same.

A couple of things.

Tacoma frames was do to a supplier (DANA) not meeting design specs, that is not on Toyota as far as I'm concerned. But they did do the right thing in responce to the situation AFAIC.

The new cafe regulations are driving the auto industry toward diesels, so we'll just have to get used to that. 80 series diesels have been getting 28mpg since the beginning and they are a 6000lb truck.

I find your continued assertion that GM and Chrysler are responsible for providing us the access we have for our sport to be insulting toward the men and women who work tirelessly at getting and keeping that access.

Hey, I love LandCruisers, I own 5 of them. I'm not attacking Toys or promoting the other stuff.

Everyone uses independent suppliers. I agree with you that Toyota did the right thing, etc regarding the frames. Unfortunately, the average buyer hears the bad rap and doesn't go beyond that.

I'm not ignoring the efforts of clubs and individuals regarding access. I'm just saying there are strength in numbers and if the numbers of owners of offroad vehicles decline, the voice and support gets smaller. The more offroad capable vehicles that other manufacturers produce and the more owners, the more voices and $ to help keep access open.

In NH, we are down to Class VI roads and private land with permission if you want to be offroading legally. The Class VI's are generally closed from the end of Deer season in December until May 1 which is the end of mud season. Not like it was 30 years ago, but not much else is either. I'm concerned about the sport and I love my brand. But I'm not going to say anything bad about anyone elses brand that enjoys and contributes to the same sport.

The average American dislikes diesels and even the manufacturers don't have plans to add diesels to the mix because of that aversion. There won't be any 80 series diesels comng down the road in Toyota's US plans. Not my opinion, just their reaction to our market. I wish they would bring them in. Diesel torque rules! Just like them killing the FJ Cruiser.

The latest I heard today on the government crusher program was $3000 - $5000 a vehicle. The more of those old Toys given up, the more tears I shed. I don't like to even see them parted out. There's a lot of parts on eBay, etc. from what we would consider to be a restorable vehicle in the Northeast. I hate to see any FJ40's go since there were so few imported.

Peace!

Larry

New tank from Cruiser Dan at American Toyota. They have an add in the classified section.
Even with shipping from New Mexico it was still $60 cheaper than my local dealer and was here in
less than a week.
Stay away from the plastic tanks

Totally agree with you Dave.

Tomorrow we are doing the MS walk in Worcester. Then Sunday should be spend finishing up the basement renovations and starting to get the lawn in order.

Also, going to be picking up some pieces of DOM from Fox and will hopefully be starting my slider project soon.

VERY unmotivated today. Think I'm going to blow work off and do some wrenchin. The local packie is having a huge beer tasting tonight from 6-9. Easter egg hunt tomorrow for the little monster. Has all the makings of a great long weekend!

I want to blow off work today but I'm already here.

Ditto. I do have a list of work-things to finish today if could conjure up some focus.

My son has a friend over tomorrow starting around 9am. Taking them both to an Easter egg hunt, then lunch, then Monsters vs. Aliens.

Then home to rake leaves (if it's dry) or work on the truck (if it's not).

Had dinner last night with my old college theater director and it made me realize how much I miss that creative outlet. It's so damn time consuming though.

Anyone know Indian Food??

I just got invited out to lunch at the Indian place but have never eaten Indian before. I barely eat Thai but love Americanized Chinese food. (I realize these are different thing but to give you an idea of what I eat.)

Any suggestions for something not to spicy for a big baby like myself?
