I'm buying another 60 tomorrow... Truly rust free, current owner has had it for 20 years and had a rebuild on the engine completed by the local Toyota dealer 20K miles ago! It has an idle issue, which I've learned here is common and something I'm comfortable fixing, also has a bad A/C but I just can't pass it up for the price.

Pics tomorrow after I pick it up.... Looks exactly like my current 60 without the see through rear quarters and it has no torn seats.

Oh, forgot to mention, this one will be the DD for my wife who thought she could live vicariously through mine but now wants one for herself as well. Don't know why she is not wanting to drive mine after the suspension and tires I have planned?

;)

It's beer thirty so I'm outta here...

Spoke too soon...

Deal didn't happen today, had rough plan worked out on Sunday and now seller is changing schedules and requirements (i.e. bill of sale and title transfer form isn't enough and would rather meet at the title transfer place before handing over the keys). Maybe I put off a bad vibe, or it's just hard letting go of a cruiser after 20 years.

I understand where he's coming from i guess, rough idle, he's not sure I know how to drive, if I hit someone and the car is still in his name... He's concerned they'd come after him.

I've never done a deal where the bill of sale and cash wasn't comfortable - anyone else think that I'm just too relaxed about all this?

My wife couldn't decide between the FJ80 and FJ60 and this is tipping her towards the 80... :frown:

Anyway - moral of the story is now we're getting that 'it wasn't meant to be feeling'.

Decision time and I absolutely hate backing out on someone in a car deal...

What do you think go ahead with a decent deal, fix the issues with the idle and A/C and then sell it so I don't back out or just speak up now and let him sell it to someone else?

Anal Retentive=good thing

The guy just sounds anal retentive. That could be a good thing if he was always been paranoid about every little thing on the cruiser. Go with it. You can wait a day or two.

You could also park the truck somewhere and it gather parking tickets while it's still registered to him. I think he is just being cautious/paranoid.

thanks

Both good points, I've bought a lot of cars and I guess I just have an odd feeling on this one... Seems he does too, and you're right, that could be a good thing if it relates to care of the cruiser.

Good to vent here - I'll post updates with the deal... He's leaving town on Wednesday so it may be a while..

Thanks again...

there are lots of lawyers in this world

many with nothing to do but look for their percentage of a settlement because defending yourself can be more expensive than settling. cut the guy some slack, he prolly had some bad experience before and does not want a repeat.

(no offense meant to any of our lawyer members. some of my best friends are lawyers... well, at least one;-)

Clean body with recently rebuilt engine by a Toyota dealer for $2800?? Extremely, possibly even outrageously good deal IMO. Meet him at the title place!!

Thanks To All!!

I got over my impatience and settled in to get the deal done. Everything worked out great and man is this about 100 times cleaner than my other one.

My wife (this one is hers) is a purist to the core so there will be repairs only on this one and no modifications, staying 100% stock. Can't say original cause it needs a few things replaced, but definitely stock. ...and the car deserves it I think, 22 years old and looks better than some of the late '90s vehicles I've had recently.

There are some quirks to work out, gas filter crumbled when I went to remove it, issue in the gauges that shuts off the dash lights and I'm thinking it'll need quite a bit of vacuum troubleshooting. To me that's what these are all about though, opening the hood and then a beer and working out the bugs.

Just wanted to say thanks again for the reality check, unwarranted concern on my part, but damn we didn't want to wait a week for this thing!

It was a tough day for the previous owner, said good bye to an old friend that he'd had since before his 18 year marriage started.

Hope we can do it justice...

Work schedule isn't permitting much these days, but I'll update my website as soon as possible with some detailed pics.

Congrats to you and your wife! Do feel sorry for the guy who had to sell, at least he knows it's going to a good home.

I can relate to the sellers position. the second I sell a car/truck I fax my insurance company and the department of motor vehicles letting them know that the car/truck does NOT belong to me anymore. I'm not sure about other states, but in SC a fawknut will buy a car and never change the title. Driving around with a bill of sale until they get a ticket, which could be months.

Sweet! That's how mine used to look.

Congrats on the deal.

You are the Best!!!

Thanks for my new Cruiser!!!!! I can't wait to drive it.:bounce2: That's me doing my TOYOTA! Jump!!!!
