I’ve been taking my daily driver 80 to GSMTR for 4 years. I’m tired of being worried about damage or braking it badly. Enter the Crasin.

@AJR and I had made a deal that I’d buy it for $500, but doesn’t include axles or driveshafts. I talked @Trollhole out of a set that we had at the shop and started buying parts.

Parts rolled in both new and used, some I already had. I pulled apart the unlocked donor axles and installed Aussie lockers front and rear. Replaced some hardware, and fixed some stripped bolt holes. Then they were on the trailer and ready to head to Adam’s along with a lot of parts. Ready to swap over and bring home the cruiser that I’ve never seen in person.

Check out Adam’s thread to see what happened there.
I ended up bringing home this...

Huge thanks to @GLTHFJ60 @AJR @Fort Knox @aquatech3 @MyWhiteSheep @SeanLX and anyone else I’m forgetting. We had a blast and got some work done.

After I got the Crasin home (named by @Fort Knox ) I started stripping the nasty interior out, and prepping for the following weekends hurricane creek trip, which was awesome!

Back to GSMTR prep. All the seats have been removed, and so far all of the carpet has been removed except the front. Seats have been power washed and so has the underside which had more caked on mud than you could imagine. It’s ready to come into the shop.

Specs on the rig

96 FZJ80
208k miles
Aussie lockers front and rear
Slee 4” springs and castor plates
Doestech shocks
Metal tech extended brake lines
37/14/16 super swamper iroc’s (courtesy of @AJR )
Marlin crawler part time spool (yet to be installed)
Other than that it’s pretty stock and I’ll just try and be prepared to break parts.

So who's the artist responsible for the signature, one of a kind design? Might need some clear coat on that.....

Looks like the hood is the only thing on it that doesn't have a dent....go ahead and take a BFH to it!

How many cruisers do you now have.....I'm guessing 4-5!

Everyone had a hand in the paint work. Also, you’re correct that the hood is the only straight panel. I’ll fix that soon. This makes 4 cruisers in my stable, for now...

Last night, I did some more cutting and hammering on the front fenders to “clean up” the cutting and hammering that happened initially.

I also managed to break loose 7 out of 8 crossmember bolts. Only 1 broke! Tonight I did a fun job instead of an important messy one. Rock lights! You can’t go night wheeling without rock lights.

I also did some bodywork.

Tomorrow, installed the part-time spool in the T-case.

Well, I didn’t get the spool installed, but I did get the T-case torn down.

After the pictures were taken I did finish removing the diff. I’ll head to trollhole’s tomorrow to swap the bearing onto the spool. Then I party all night for my sisters 40th. Hopefully Monday the case will be back together.

I was able to reassemble the transfer case yesterday, but not get it completely bolted back up.

Tonight I made some mounting tabs for my rigid LEDs from an old mower blade. And started dealing with the rusty crossmember bolt holes. I’ll have it all bolted back up before the night’s over.

7-pin mod and CDL switch will also be under way tonight.

The last couple nights after work I’ve been in wiring hell. Removed 2 alarms and some other aftermarket electronics that don’t function. Also been finishing up tidying wires from the rock lights and rigid pods. Winch will get swapped over from the burro de fuego this weekend, as well as welding of panhard bars, rear recovery points, and trailer tie-down points.

More progress today. Front panhard has been cut and stretched, then painted red because black is boring.

Added a rear recovery point.

BONUS! I got the passenger side door to open and close.

I also worked more on the interior. 7-pin mod is done, front carpet is almost completely removed, and the switch for the bumper lights is installed.

Not much work on the Crasin today, but the borrowed tow rig got some attention. Front brakes, oil change, and a new door latch cable so the drivers side rear door opens again.
I ran a tap through the bolt hole on the rear axle for the panhard mount and installed a new bolt. I also Got the warn winch off my daily 80 to use on the Crasin for GSMTR.

it looks sad without a winch.

What's the story on that C4 hiding over there? I've been mulling over getting one for a track car.

It’s a vette kart project that belongs to my brother in-law. 4 years he’s been paying for plates and insurance and it’s never been on the road, but there’s a pile of parts behind it waiting to go on. Cage, suspension, harnesses, starter. It already has fresh brakes, tires, and seats. I’m still trying to convince him to cut the windshield off.

More progress. Winch mounted.

Seats have been power washed and reinstalled.

Lights mounted and wired. My to-do list is getting short.

A friend of mine has been helping a bit here and there. After working on this turd and constantly be covered in dried up mud falling from the truck, he said too bad it already has a name, because he’d call it joe dirt. Is it too late to change the name of a project? Lol
