this is a repost from the 80's section... the full thread can be read here:

Just had the truck re-geared to 4.88s. I am currently running 315 Nitto Terra Grapplers. I am in Mass, at or just above sea level. There are no engine mods to the truck, I run it with an ARB bumper, IPOR rear bumper and loaded with tools (to give you an idea of the added weight). I run 87 octane (Mobile if it makes a difference) and the PWR button was not on.

these were my results driving home last night. all results are GPS measured:
total miles = 30.82
gallons burned = 2.14
MPG = 14. 4
this was cruising on the highway between 70 - 85 MPH
https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=176784
these were the speed measurements:
RPM..........Speedo Measurement.....GPS Speed Reading
2,250........65...............................60.5
2,400........71...............................65
2,600........75...............................70
2,800........81...............................75
3,000........?.................................80

overall, the truck feels MUCH more responsive and most importantly to me, it does not constantly have to downshift up hills on the highway. cruising at 65 is a breeze. The shift points feel the same as if the PWR button was on and I had the stock gearing. I will have it in 4low this weekend out on the sand. I can't wait to see how that feels.

I would recommend this to anyone with 35s and an 80 series.

I hope to hell you're not doing 80 mph on gears that aren't fully broken in yet...

If so, get ready to buy another set.

ted drove the truck for a full week breaking them in... not the full 500 miles but plenty...

how did they make out with the front locker?

they didnt. they said it is not siezed but it is possibly the actuator? maybe its power getting to the locker. not sure if they tested it with a 9volt battery or not but with the costs mointing at that point i didnt bother elaborating.

One side of the house left and I can start playing with cruisers again. When I get my locker issue worked out we should tackle yours as the circuit will be fresh in my mind.
