I'm thinking $150 for a club member. You will need a tank and wire. Although you could just use flux core and skip the tank.

The 120 welder is great to have around- especially at that price! You can weld with flux core and mixed gas too for more penetration. Flux core burns hotter but spatters more.

Cool stuff J.

Ya, I want to get better at welding and will be fun for small projects. I know enough of you guys with big welders if I need anything serious done ;).

i agree, flux core sucks
your welds will be many times better with gas
i use to have a weld shop
and the welders that worked for me used the 120's to tack parts
then they would finish the job with the big 300 amp heliarcs or the 300 pulsar Mig

Do yourself a favor and get a bottle for it. Welding with Flux sucks...

Phase II complete. Bought tube but haven't had a chance to use it yet. It isn't completely assembled in this picture, just making sure everything is in the right place before I finish weld it .

Yep, I got the 1.75" x 4.5" die for it. Its made by Rogue Fab in Portland. Uses a HF air/hydraulic ram. Probably pick up a couple more dies, maybe a 1" for roof racks and a 2" depending on need. I couldn't find any 1.75" tube in the scrap metal area at White City Metals so I had to buy it new from them which was OUCH! basically think $3.33/foot and you get the picture. I got enough to experiment and make some sliders for the PIG. Here's the link to it.

Maybe you could use it to design and build a line of products unique to your special talents? "Jammin Jeffybilt" or "RogueReady" or something like that. You could become famous.:clap:

I found Dixon steel was cheaper than White City last time I bought new steel. The stuff I was looking at was rusty too at WC and not much cheaper than new. If you want some scrap EMT to practice on let me know the die sizes you get and I will see if i can find something close. Pipe vs. tube is different but it will get you close. Farwest is also a big player. Looking forward to seeing what you build.
If you know or get to know some fab shops or manufactures they throw all their scraps in a WC/Schnitzer bin and will sell it to you cheap- if you find the right folks ;)

My dad used to have an account with Farwest when he was building Teardrop trailers. I'll ask him if its still open. Its gotta be cheaper, I just need to inquire about buying quantity. I figured White City would be more or less retail pricing.

I randomly clicked on the ad for Rogue Fab one day because I had never heard of them and I was curious if they were out of the Rogue Valley. Low and behold they were semi-local from the Portland area which made me a fan.

I have looked at a bunch of different bender models over the years and there were a bunch of JD's for sale on Pirate. I've read various complaints about their dies. JD dies are only compatible with the model they came with ie the JD 3 wasn't compatible with the 2 and so on which kinda irked me because I love backwards compatibility, and the dies are the most expensive part of any bender. I was worried that JD would phase out the old stuff over the years and the whole investment would be obsolete. Also their were a couple complaints of the die kinking the metal because I guess there was a run of dies that weren't machined correctly. The RF benders could use any of the dies he had for sale and the implication he made was that any new updates would continue to use those dies.

I also didn't want to have to bolt the bender down to the concrete. On a day to day basis I may use any part of the shop and I didn't want to worry about putting the bender too close to the wall and not being able to make a bend or having it in the way of cars going in and out. The RF bender is completely portable.

I really wanted something that used hydraulic and the air/hydraulic from RF was the only one I liked besides the super expensive units. Most of them charge a bunch more money for a "hydraulic conversion". With the air/hydraulic cylinder its one button, I mean why would I want to put my beer down if I didn't have to?

I went over their website with a fine tooth comb and it answered a lot of questions I had and all the reviews seemed great. All of his explanations were very well written and it seemed like a well thought out machine. Basically I took a leap of faith going with a small relatively unknown manufacturer. I've emailed them several times and have got a reply each time within a day. I plan to buy one or two more dies from them and I anxiously await any new products that they may be bringing to the table.

How much is each die?
